Jews were also expelled from many countries in the middle east because of the shenanigans of Israel. |
I don't think we're arguing Israel's right to exist. Far from it. We're just saying it should no longer be a US welfare state. It's not the 51st state. They should pay for it like every other nation. |
FU too. Clearly you do not know how the world works. There are countless countries that U.S. provides assistance such as Pakistan. Who has been giving safe harbor to Osama. Should we cut ourselves off from the world? |
The reason the U.S. should support Israel is because it is a democratic country in the Middle East who contributes to the greater good. What other democratic country in that region is there? |
Lebanon and Turkey. Soon, Egypt and Tunisia. The one thing that I have noticed in this thread is that the pro-Israel arguments appear to be stuck on a time warp. |
In all fairness the amount we give draefs anything but Pakistan and that is only because we are in a war on their border. |
Denicracy for half of the people is not democracy, is it? |
Agree one person one vote!

Do you think Netty is racist and that is why he acts like he does? Why does he disrespect the president and the US some much? |
Cut it all off and see how fucking cocky they are then. They'll sign peace agreements with their neighbors in no time. I care about Israel as much as I care about Ivory Coast or Rwanda. Faux democracy is overrated.
They're really not THAT important when you think about our natural interests in the region, they don't have oil. We should focus on Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the other oil producers since they're the ones that really have an effect on our economy. |
Why did Obama give this bozo the clown a meeting at the white house? Should have just kept him waiting, and gone golfing. Those congressman clapping at everything he said, like trained seals begging for fish. Do they really need Aipac's support that much? What does Obama do if he wins reelect? Interesting, no? Aipac will have to do everything they can to oppose him and hope he loses. |
This is part of the major problem. "Our" definition of democracy does not have to be the same everywhere. That is a struggle for the cistizens of that country to battle without influence by us. What would we say if they tried to impose their beliefs on our social norms and customs, our democracy. Right or wrong, its not our battle to fight. The ladies Saudi Arabia are putting up a fight, in Bahrain its not a big issue...they have to come to resolve these issues on their own. |
He who pays the piper calls the tune. If Israel does not want US influence, it is welcome to politely decline the $3-$4 billion in US tax dollars we provide them annually. Personally, I'd like to see a dollar deducted from US assistance for every dollar spent on settlements. It is US policy that the settlement are an "obstacle to peace". Given that money is fungible, we are essentially paying for obstacles to peace. |
PP here, your right. I miss read the text I quoted thinking that the PP was reffering to other arab countries within the region but now read it to mean they were reffering to the Arab/Israeli struggle - to which I agree 100%. My mistake. |
In other words, just write the big check, and stay the hell out of their business? Allow then to define democracy in whatever flexible way they please? Sorry, that's a little naive. Other than Afghanistan and Iraq (for obvious reasons) Israel received more foreign aid from the US than any other country (according to 2009 figures). It receioves more US foreign aid per capita than any other nation. It's not like it's a third world nation, either. It's entirely appropriate to raise questions about human rights violations given our level of support. |
