Time to cut Israel off

Then if it not about the money, can the US just keep it?
I can think about a ton of good projects in the US that need funding.

Yeah, and the Israel project is not working. They ignore the American president and build more settlements, but they still want the money
Obama got it wrong. he must just hand them the money and keep his mouth shut.
I really wonder if the Israelis want peace. The status quo like it is now seems to suit them

Wow. It is surprising to me to see how misinformed DC moms are. Israel is a tiny democratic country surrounded by countries espousing hate and intolerance -- countries denying Israel's right to exist. Somehow, amidst all of that hate, this tiny country has found the strength to survive and contribute in thousands of ways to society. What is the first country to offer aid in natural disasters? Israel. What country is on the cutting edge of medical advances and cures for diseases that ravage the world? Israel. What country has a thriving technology sector that has brought amazing new technologies to the world? Israel. All of this while being attacked on a regular basis. Amazing.

Israel won it's right to exist 63 years ago. It became a country, with its own borders and own functioning government. Through time, people attack and Israel still survives. If you aren't aware, every country was established in the same way. The United States took its freedom from the British, who settled the land they took from the native Americans. That is how countries are born. Why is it ok for every other country to start up their country, but you seem to question Israel's right to do the same?

Jewish people around the world were expelled from their own countries for absolutely no reason except that they were Jewish. Who welcomed them --every one of them? Israel. When the Palestinians lost their claim to parts of Israel, the Arab nations refused to take these people in. Not one single Arab nation took in their own people. Those Arab nations made these people homeless. That is outrageous.

Before you bash Israel, educate yourselves. Israel is an absolutely amazing country that contributes more to the world than any of its neighbors in the ways that matter (i.e., not oil, but brain-power, technology, kindness, medical advances, etc.) The fact that it thrives while being surrounded by hate is a miracle in and of itself. Fostering democracy in the Middle East should be a top priority in the United States, and Israel is the only one.

And for a women's board, I would think that you would support countries who support women. In the rest of the Middle East women are covered up, not seen, and not heard. That is what you support? Women in Israel contribute to the amazing advances that the country offers to the world.

11:10, Israel is still an Apartheid state. With all the accomplishments you just stated, why does the State of Israel still need the billions of dollars from Washington? According to what you just described, they don't need Washington's money. Therefore, Washington should use it where it is truly needed.

BTW--You failed to mention that Israel also routinely spies on the U.S. I guess that's what friends are for.

Hate is a strong word here. I haven't seen anyone saying they hate Israelis or Jews generally. What is apparent is that at least some people believe that our no-matter-what backing of Israel may not be in the best interests of the United States. I don't hate Israel. I don't hate Israelis. But there are some estimates that state that there are more Israeli spies in the U.S. than from any other country. Billions in aid to a country that probably doesn't need it and doesn't necessarily act in conjunction with the U.S. in return for that aid and promise of defense. uh...okay. I have no debate with the concept of having founded the state of Israel, but I'm astounded at the inability of Israel to be willing to sacrifice anything at all to give the same right to the Palestinians who, by the way, had their own country until (coincidentally) the state of Israel was created.

11:10 you have deliberately mis-read previous posts and conveniently forget the sacrifices other countries made in lives, land and money for the creation of Israel.

No one here is denying Israel's right to thrive. But I for one wish it could be a right extended to Palestine as well.

Educate yourselves? Wow, you are really condescending. Yet you either don't understand, or are unwilling to admit, Israel's role in the peace problem. None of the above posters disputes Israel's right to exist. Yet you act as though somehow we don't know that. Or that Israel has some great things about it. Sure it does. But it does not excuse Israel from doing its part to find a peaceful solution. Your facile justification that sometimes countries take over other countries seems ironic given that the topic is protecting Israel from being taken back.

There are people on this board with more years of experience studying and living in Israel than you. You really need to question the story that you have been spoon-fed and take a good hard look at the situation. Why you have such a one-sided perspective is odd since the average Israeli is much more critical of their government's handling of the Palestinian issue.

None of us has said that we don't like Jews or see Israel as a country.

I'm tired of footing the bill for their misuse of power, killing people and marginalizing Palestinians. What they're doing is wrong. If they aren't willing to work out a realistic peace plan and stick to it, they need to pay for their own security.

WHY is it wrong to accept Israel's "right" to exist as a Jewish country?
Like explain why say, Finland can't say that they have the right to be a white country? Of course that would be offensive. I am concerned about the accusation that I am an anti Semite because I don't support racism (Zionism).

Perhaps they should seek funding from China as that's where the money will come from...

The point is moot. The Palestinians already gave on this one in negotiations. Wikileaks made it public. The question now is not whether Israel can exist or whether it can be accepted as a Jewish state, but whether Palestinians get to have a state at all.

all i ever learned about this situation i learned from reading major US newspapers and watching the BBC. i don't have a dog in this fight, wrt to religion or ethnicity or any of it. i think i am pretty objective and in my objective opinion, most of the posters on this thread are right. palestinians have rights too. they have been wronged, on balance, more so than israelis. it's time americans stood up for them too.

i am sure the ensuing conversation will get all crazy. have at it.

Why are the arabs supposed to take in the Palestinians. They are not the same people group? I wonder how well you really know that region now that you say Arabs and Arab nations did not take in 'their' people.
In case you are interested, the gypsys have been expelled from all over the world for absolutely no reason but that they were gypsys. I suggest you read history books more. Not just the history of one people group, but the history of other nations too.

Oh, you didn't know that all Arabs are the same?

I wonder why South Africa didn't just move out the blacks. After all there were other black countries with an obligation to take them in, right?
