Love the older woman who stood up to those assholes. If you behave like that at that age, put em away and throw away the key. Not fit for roaming free. |
| This clip is so disturbing - It makes me want to home school my kids so that they never are exposed to such disgusting people. |
The article states that he person recording can be heard telling the criminals to get out of there since the police are coming.. not exactly a saint.. but hopefully evidence to get those girls in jail and those mcdonalds employees fired!! |
| Typical Rosedale, hun. Sorry to say. |
Was the person recording it saying it to get them to stop beating the victim? I read that the worker who taped it was fired. They are looking into disciplining other workers. |
Imagine if that were YOUR child on the floor of the restaurant
|
| Didn't read the article but I heard the attackers were initially set off because one of their BFs made a pass at the victim. And then it escalated when they realized she was transgendered. |
| If this isn't a hate crime I don't know what is. Where's AG Holder on this? |
| Those animals, all of them, should be jailed/punished at the least, for a LONG TIME. I'm sure attempted murder is a stretch in this type of case, but from the looks of it, those "girls" wouldn't care if the poor victim did die. Surely, she will suffer long-term effects (psychologically, continuing, once any physical damage is healed). Just disgusted and horrified. What kind of parents raise these types of "children"?? Shame on ALL of them. |

First off, let me say that I am in no way excusing the actions of the two girls who perpetrated the violence. However, I think context is necessary:
""They said, 'That's a dude, that's a dude and she's in the female bathroom,' " said Chrissy Lee Polis, 22, who said she stopped at the Rosedale restaurant to use the restroom. "They spit in my face."" Ms. Polis is the victim. My hunch is that the girls in the bathroom, ignorant to Ms. Polis's status as a transgender woman and of transgender issues in general, overreacted at the sight of what they believed to be a male in a female bathroom. I doubt any woman would be comfortable with a male suddenly entering a female bathroom and with our society's all-to-common sexual and physical assault on women by men, I think a physical response would be warranted if a woman felt unsafe in these circumstances. I don't think it warrants the level of violence demonstrated, but I do not want to begin to assume the psyche of a young, developing female who might be in a state of fear and panic. The bigger problem here is the ignorance surrounding transgender issues and the fact that we still operate in a society that presumes a gender binary which is simply not the case. |
| Sorry, not buying it, not for one second. Did the attackers look fearful and panicked? While you are entirely correct about the need for better understanding of transgender issues, this is a hate crime, a wilding crime and I think these girls would have beat up just about anyone they felt like. Ms. Polis was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but not the wrong bathroom. The context is two criminals beating one innocent person. Simple as that. |

PP -- Clearly, there are FAR more civil/normal ways to deal with this type of "situation." The 2 "scared" females could have quickly left, and alerted the staff, IF they did indeed feel threatened somehow (very likely was not the case). They just didn't like what they saw, and decided it was fine to just beat the hell out of someone.
Ideally, yes, all of society would be in tune with all existing societal issues, etc. But the far bigger picture in this type of case is the lack of regard for others in general. There is NO EXCUSE for the action those 2 girls took. |
| She was on the news and I thought she looked like a she. |

I am not attempting to excuse it, only to put it in context. There is a difference between two girls saying, "Hey, look, a guy dressed as a girl! What a freak! Let's beat it up!" and two girls saying, "What the hell is a guy doing in the women's room? That's fucked up!"
I don't think the level of violence is justified by any means. If they truly were scared, they simply could have screamed for help or shoved Ms. Poli out and then sought help. They had better options. The violence they demonstrated was disgusting, especially once it became clear that Ms. Poli had no intentions of harming them and that there were bystanders who presumably could have helped if she had. I'm only offering a possible alternative understanding of the situation, since the typical hand wringing about the downfall of society and description of the two attackers as "animals" is rarely productive and, oddly enough, a far more common reaction when the perpetrators of such attacks are people of color. Can I say with any confidence that this assuredly the case? Absolutely not. But before we conclude that society is doomed and two young girls are animals undeserving of human consideration, maybe we should step back and try to understand what REALLY happened. |
And your point is?????? |
