"I'd rather lose self-government than see the people I don't like elected" is quite a take as we approach the 250th.

So we should let Trump pick the mayor instead? How is that self-governance?

Why isn’t this election interference?

Good. She’s a total disaster who will bankrupt the city.

Trump says a lot of dumb $hit. Who cares?

I voted for Janeese because she's the better candidate. IDGAF about Trump.

Well, that’s one reason to root for JLG.

Trump is a godawful scumbag, corrupt, delusional demented authoritarian, and i DO NOT want him to take the city over.

But JLG and others in this city are being idiots with their heads up their asses. We DO need to get this city's juvenile lawlessness problem under control. The more these Chipotle brawl things happen, the more ammunition we give to Trump. KNOCK IT OFF. GET IT UNDER CONTROL.

It is clear to me that Janeese is not going to do that. McDuffie sounds stronger than Janeese on dealing with it, but even he sounds like he's talking that talk just to keep Trump's threats at bay, rather than doing it because we actually need to do it. Goodweather may be the other option.

I think we need to improve MPD staffing and send the National Guard back to their homes, we need to get MPD invested in the community (hire more cops from inside the city or have programs to help cops live in DC),

I think we need more accountability from teens and from their parents and guardians - I'm not saying throw them in juvie or ruin their lives, but at the very least mandate community service and mandatory summer academy to get them better life skills and so on.

For the people who say "there's not enough for kids to do" I say bullshit because DC has more for kids than most other places in this country, but if you want more, fine, the resourcing for that can be supplemented with that mandatory community service. Have the kids who get in trouble help DPR, have them help set up events and provide logistics, and so on - along with having them help the BIDs with litter cleanup, graffiti removal and so on. Have them help coaches. Lots of things they can be put to work doing that will also make them more invested in their neighborhood and community rather than treating their neighborhood and community like garbage they way they currently do.

Honestly I’d rather live in an actual police state rather than one run by 12 year old people car jacking and murdering people and robbing people. 🤷

My Ranked Choices:
1. Goodweather
2. McDuffie

And a NO to Janeese Lewis George and Vincent Orange. Don't know enough about the other candidates.

Agree with everything here, as a 33 yr longtimer resident of DC

Agree as a 60 year resident. Her political director is a founder of Harriet's Wildest Dreams, an insane, extreme, racially divisive activist group that calls for the abolition of prisons, policing, capitalism, etc etc...

As prison abolitionists, we are fighting for a world where the response to social problems does not include prisons, policing, prosecution, or any form of surveillance, supervision, or incarceration. These systems of punishment rely on, reinforce, and perpetuate structures of oppression; white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, xenophobia, ableism, and heterosexism. We aim to undermine and abolish these systems, not reform them.

The criminal legal system was never designed with true justice in mind for black people. We believe that there is a difference between crime and harm. Crime is “made up” by people with the power to maintain the status quo.

Build sustainable alternatives to policing and capitalism through mutual aid.

I think if we had a federal takeover, it would basically turn DC into Hong Kong pre- China control. There would be hyper-favorable tax rates, the poors would all get pushed out and there would be military on ever corner.

Sounds good to me!

Wow. What a bunch of delusional, deranged horse crap. So if you get pistolwhipped and carjacked by a bunch of teens that's just "made up?"

JLG and her team can eff right off. That alone is a complete deal breaker for me.
