Yes. Politically, I'm pro-choice. I said I'm "personally" pro-life. I believe it is life, I believe life is the right choice. I believe abortion is wrong. I also don't believe in legislating morality, so you're free to choose your own path. I wouldn't support any legislation that suppressed any man or woman's right to choose whether or not they want to become a parent. Does that clear it up for you? |
I know someone who had a 3rd tri-mester abortion. It was a "birth" of a deceased baby (they stop the heart in the womb) and the baby came out beautiful and had a true burial. The couple had it done in Kansas, by that doctor who was killed. Anyway, I am pro-life myself, but when I saw what my friend went through to make the decision (the baby had a very serious medical issue and would have required it's 1st surgery at birth, and the best "success" story found of a child who had this condition was a child who died at 10 years old. after having 8 open heart surgeries), I came to understand how she came to her decision. Anyway, I wouldn't know how anyone would have real pictures of a 3rd trimester abortion because these are treated like births and the babies are not just tossed in a trash can as the Missy Smith ads would want you to believe. |

I have to admit I know nothing about this, and don't plan to try to see this particular ad.
But my guess after reading this thread is that this 'candidate' isn't actually trying to win an office, but is just using a run for office as a legal vehicle / cover in order to be able to put this stuff on TV. |

I saw this ad on Wednesday on the 4 o'clock news on NBC. I sat there in shock. I checked here a couple times to see if anyone else saw it but didn't see anything for a few days until this. I was going to post, but without the name because I'm pretty sure what we are doing now is the whole point of the ad, talking about it, finding out who was behind it, looking her up, and so on.
I am still shocked I saw that on TV, and I couldn't get the images out of my head for a few days. Even my Husband asked me what was wrong that night and I told him about the ad. I'm pregnant, and seeing that got me so emotional. I don't understand how they can show this on TV, and when I saw it the warning came AFTER the ad aired. I'm just shocked. I don't care what your stance is on anything, using "shock media" like that to get your agenda across is just way out of line. Ugh I can't even write this without getting all worked up. |
I'm also wondering where she got these pictures. The one with the hands around a coin? Where would she get access to those 'hands'? The lady seems like a lunatic! |

Ok so let me get this straight: She had an abortion (TWO abortions?) herself by her OWN choice but now she is running ads against it? Wow... just wow. Those are my favorite women. The majority of the women I talked to who are absolutely against abortion regardless of the circumstances had an abortion themselves. I am sorry but you don't get to choose for others.
Not trying to spark the usual debate about it, but I just don't get it. I am glad I did not see the ad. |
| She sounds like she's mentally ill. |
Agreed, and there is no way anyone working for her thinks she has a chance in hell in getting elected. Agree with PP who says it is a ruse to get this on TV. |
This!! What I don't get is the hypocrisy of pro-lifers - many of whom are staunch right wing republicans (or tea-partiers) who also are against sex education in schools or distributing birth control. We won't help you prevent a pregnancy, but we do want to be involved in the personal decision of how you handle the pregnancy! And they also are anti-welfare and social programs to help single moms . . . so yeah, you had darn well better chose life and have the baby, but good luck affording child care and finding work with a liveable wage. We want you to have the baby so we can then demonize you and point to your general social demographic as everything that is wrong with society today. |
| This is first degree murder and torture! |

Back to the ad - versus the debate on where you stand on pro-life, pro-choice.
I can respect a person's opinion on pro-life, pro-choice - even if it is differenant than mine. But anyone who chooses to run those ads, I cannot respect. I think the law that forces the stations to have no rights to not air them need to be changed. Freedom of speech is one thing, but I would think that some things are exempt. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater. So how can you show something so disturbing - during hours when kids could be watching. It's just ridiculous. |

You are incredibly naive to think that 3rd trimester abortions are treated like "births" and not just tossed in a trash can. There are various methods that have been used for killing a child in the 3rd trimester. One method is partial-birth abortion, a procedure that involves turning the baby in the womb, pulling it out by the head so that just the skull of the LIVING baby is exposed, and then using scissors or other sharp instrument to puncture the skull so the brains of the baby can be suctioned out, collapsing the skull. The result, of course, is the delivery of a dead baby. This gruesome procedure was strongly supported by then Senator Obama, of course. Surprisingly, many of even the most liberal politicians didn't have the stomach for this procedure.
These late-term abortionists have been very successful in marketing the "births" of the deceased babies they have killed, complete with the parents holding the dead infant and then having a funeral. Don't you see how twisted this is? The abortionist gets his hefty fee and the parents get to feel better about choosing to kill their infant. I have a family member who also made the same choice as your friend and the same abortionist carried out the very late term procedure for her. When it came down to it, the decision seems to have been made for financial reasons and an unwillingness to deal with the issue of having a handicapped child. There is no way to determine with absolute certainty the progression of a defect in an unborn child. There is also no way to determine when that medical silver bullet may be developed which would help that child. Whether you call it a "birth" (and I have heard people actually refer to this killing as "beautiful") or a gruesome late-term procedure which dismembers the baby - the end result is the same - a dead baby. There is no way to sugar-coat this and you are definitely not "pro-life" if you support this killing in any way! All of you who are so "shocked" by the photos in the Missy Smith ad are just getting a dose of reality! Just google "late-term abortions" if you have the courage to face the reality of "Choice".

I'm assuming you are talking about abortion. Point taken...but guess what!? It isn't appropriate to show graphic depictions of murder and torture on televison (and we're talking regular broadcast non-pay tv) in the afternoon! WTF! Why is this even unclear to anyone? And don't say...oh well if you're pro-choice you (and your children appearantly) ought to be forced to view this so you know what you're supporting...uh, not on tv at four in the afternoon! Do you who support the death penalty believe it should be broadcast on tv at four in the afternoon? Or how about graphic sex? That's reality, right? Most of us here have had sex. But no, you know what, a person should be able to watch the Ellen show without having to worry about this filth coming on and the kids being exposed to it. COME ON! |
It is outrageous and horrible. That sort of thing does NOT need to be aired, regardless of the discussion on abortion. It is outrageous for the sake of being so and does not advance the dialogue. At all. Indeed, it makes me less inclined to have any kind of dialogue if that is the sort of sordid tactics the pro "life" people will resort to. They should be ashamed. |
A third trimester abortion is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ball of wax. And a small percentage of abortions (thank goodness). The ad is misleading (and unnecessarily grotesque.) It does not add anything to the discussion. |
