| How are images like that allowed on when kids are up? I'm sure she lost a lot of votes, so that's reassuring. What a nut job! |
Me too...on all points. It makes me quite ashamed of the prolife movement, which I believe in staunchly. |
| I was just about to post about this myself. Just saw it at 7:45 pm during The Office. I can't believe this is OK to show on TV when pornography, violence, and even language are so closely regulated. I'm no Eleanor Holmes Norton fan, but I will be voting for her this year. |
| Her website says she's a "post abortive" woman. What does that mean? That she's the product of a botched abortion? Or that she's had one herself? |
| Wow holy fuck. WTF!? And to the poster who said it's reality...LOTS of things are "reality" but it is not appropriate to broadcast them on tv (and not even cable!) at a time when children might be watching tv. |
|
I just read that one of her ads say she had not one but two abortions.
Wow. |
| Just a Q, because I never watch TV, but are these third trimester abortions? I'm not going to go to the website to look at the picture. I don't need my heart to be ripped out. I'm personally pro-life (but wouldn't impose it on other women) but just don't want to see that. |

Wow. Wow.
Some..interesting stuff on the website. "Missy also counsels women who are considering abortion in front of abortion facilities" Counsels. Yeah. |
| I think women entering abortion clinics should have a chance to hear from someone who has made the same choice and has regrets. No one should be allowed to invade their privacy or emotionally abuse them but I can see the value in such counseling if properly done. Abortion, like giving birth or surrending a child for adoption, is a choice that should be made with eyes wide open. |
There's an appropriate place for counseling before an abortion. On the sidewalk outside the clinic isn't it. |
I think that posters are suggesting that there should be time place and manner restrictions on content like that. I don't think it's a matter of whether she has the right to do it, but whether people should be given some warning like with other content, so that they can make an informed decision to watch it, and whether it should be restricted to time slots after children's bedtimes. Both of these things are accepted for other forms of speech. If this type of ad had any chance of being successful, we would be bombarded by similar gross-out sessions by get-tough DA's running for governor who could show grisly crimes or maybe executions, we could see unedited scenes of war violence, you name it. It's not a matter of whether people should be able to express it. It's more a matter of whether viewers have the opportunity to consent before exposure to it. |
| Well though I wouldn't want to see it there are so many that don't realize what they are doing and have fallen for the very liberal stand point it isn't a child. So for that reason I say view away. |
It's really not a fair discussion - the women who have had abortions have no idea what their life would be like if they had the kid (or actually they have a sense which is why they decided not to have one). So if you tell someone not to have an abortion, you also need to be prepared to help them financially, baby sit, etc. Sorry, not enough to say "I regret my decision, so good luck raising a child!" We have no idea what would have happened if she had those kids. This woman is obviously not stable and I'm glad she's not raising kids. |
So you woudl choose not to have an abortion, but allow others to make the choice for themselves. Isn't that pretty much the definition of pro-choice? |
All sorts of reality happen in bedrooms and bathrooms that do not go on TV. This is worse. |
