Is “Girl Dinner” really a thing for you?

Not really. My girl dinner is more foods DH and DS don't like. Think heaps caramelized cabbage or balsamic brussels sprouts.

Occasionally snack plates, but that's so rare and more circumstantial and less of a treat.

I think people might get confused over one thing - grazing doesn't necessarily mean less calories or healthier meals. It really depends what you're eating.

Lamb stew sounds delicious!

I am confused by the bolded. Why would someone think that choosing cheese, crackers, and salami for dinner is the low calorie choice. If I'm eating cheese, crackers, and salami, probably with some kind of veggies and dip and fruit, I'm doing it because of one of two things. One is that I am in the mood for those tastes. The other is that I am short of either time, or food, and it's convenient.

I don't call it "girl dinner". That's a ridiculous name. Having said that, my teens refer to it as "lunchables" which is no less ridiculous.

I love you.

Is he cooking it and eating it himself? If not, why not? If so, why can't someone cook and eat the foods they prefer?

Guy dinner is different. And it's a thing too. A mix of random snacks like pickles, potato chips, beer, or a single block of cheese. Also a lot of freezer meals like pizza and hot pockets. I even saw a guy woof down an entire rotisserie chicken standing over the kitchen sink.

If I served dh a girl dinner, he'd laugh at me and make more food.

PP here. Actually dh is our main cook, but I probably still make 3 dinners a week. The kids love tortellini. DH has to add Italian sausage to it (the rest of us don't really want that). He cooks big batches of Italian sausage and freezes them so he can just grab a link when he needs it.

Of course people can cook and eat the meals they prefer, but we eat as a family and we all eat the same meal. I don't feed my kids girl dinner either, it's just what I'd like to eat.

I thought this thread was locked?
Because there's already a thread and this was discussed ad nauseaum in like 2022?

No, I definitely don't eat like that. If out of food and desperate I'll have a bowl of cereal. I have to have greens.

That just sounds gross.

This is my plan as soon as the kids are out of the house. DH is not going to be a fan but I am DONE cooking.

My preference is to have lunch as my main meal of the day, and then eat something small/light for dinner. So yes, I love girl dinner and would eat like this all the time if I didn't have growing kids to feed.

I am the exact same way. I would otherwise do a snacky dinner or maybe just a salad. I do like having the dinner leftovers for lunch though!

It's fascinating to me that this board considers a bowl of pasta a terrible lunch but a little salami, crackers and cheese with a a handful of popcorn an amazing dinner.

Yes same. I rarely get to eat on my own but when I do, it will probably involve mushrooms. Occasionally blue cheese.

Yes, and every single poster who is here and interested in this topic now was active on DCUM in 2022, and was checking DCUM during the exact days or weeks that thread was active. No duplicate threads! I’m sure there’s no other duplicate threads. Good point.

Yes, but I was doing it long before it was called "girl dinner" - I grew up with Germanic European roots, and we had charcuterie spreads when I was a kid - it was just a normal meal option, or the appetizer for a larger dinner for company, although no one (in my world, anyway) referred to it as "charcuterie" then either.
