Is “Girl Dinner” really a thing for you?

I don't really understand what is "girly" about "girl dinner". I get if you eat 4 raspberries, 2 crackers and a slice of cheese, that is the kind of super low calorie eating that women do more than men. But my teen sons, who eat like horses, are happy to have a meal made of the same kinds of components, just in drastically different quantities.

It’s a subversive, fake viral corporate media creation to get the masses to swallow inflation and price gouging & embrace downward mobility — so the masses don’t riot against the ruling class.

Yes, but it is usually tater tots in the air fryer. Sometimes shrimp cocktail.

I love snacks and if left to my own devices would totally do girl dinner ever night (but would also incorporate salads). But I have 2 teen boys still at home and a husband who only considers a meal a meal when it’s hot. Next year when my kiddos are at college and my husband is traveling I am looking forward to this girl dinner thing for sure.

Americans are so damn dumb.

Cheese, fruit, bread, nuts, cured ham, picked veg, etc. How is that poor and devoid of nutrients?

That’s what we first worlders call a snack. Maybe an hors d'oeuvre.

Except it’s the same ingredients as a sandwich, just in deconstructed or bite size form. Nothing wrong with that.

If I am on my own I will have something like that. I often have one of those bagged salads you can buy at the store and just eat that. Also, cereal.

Sometimes I will do those things if it is just me and the kids. Make them mac'n cheese and I have those mentioned above.

My husband has to have a full meal every night - he cooks 90% of the time.

Boys eating goyslop prison chow "bowls" and girls eating snacks instead square meals. Economy is going great!

Deconstructed and bite size makes it a snack!

I think people might get confused over one thing - grazing doesn't necessarily mean less calories or healthier meals. It really depends what you're eating.

It’s not about cutting calories. It’s about snacks for dinner when no one is looking.

For you, maybe. But the implication behind the term "girl dinner" is that women look for less caloric options, or healthier options. Snacking by its very nature can be a slippery slope because while your brain is thinking "oh, I'm just grazing", your body is picking high-calorie foods and eating too much of it, and then you may end up eating too fatty or too salty. A cheese or charcuterie board for example, isn't a great choice. The OP's only healthy suggestion was yogurt of hummus with crackers.

Sorry for taking a lecturing tone. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I've seen women think they're eating healthy and then wonder why they're gaining weight and feeling blah.

Np here, but Don't mansplain girl dinner to me! I know all of these things bit@h. Sometimes, I want what I want.

Only a snack if you're a fatass who eats like 3000+ calories a day.

I do not do this bc a dinner of cheese, crackers, olives and a glass of wine is pretty fattening! I’d rather have a bowl of pesto pasta if I am going to indulge .

I think it depends how you like to eat. Are you someone who likes tapas? Multi course tasting menus? You probably also like eating like this. If you're the type who wants like one solid entree? This seems weird. I'm the former, so there is basically no pasta I wouldnt be happy to push away for something else after a few bites while others would probably rip your hand off if you tried. Just different taste in eating.

Coined by Olivia Maher in 2023, it represents a low-effort, aesthetic, and indulgent way to eat alone. While popular as a liberating, stress-free self-care ritual, it has faced criticism for potentially glamorizing low-calorie grazing or restricting eating habits.

Examples of Girl Dinner
Classic: Cheese, crackers, salami, olives, and grapes.
Beige: Buttered noodles, popcorn, and garlic toast.
Snack-based: Pickles, nuts, cheese, and fruit.
Leftovers/Odd Pairings: Yogurt, hummus with veggies, or wine with crackers.

Do you do this?

Yes, and long before it was a trend.

I think this is actually a genius insight. I am definitely the former - I like a little taste of everything all at once, whether a tapas menu, an Indian buffet, or a snack plate.
