KLI has long been a deeper meet. However, this year there aren’t the standouts at the top of the Winter Classic (State, NCAA, Olympic Champs) that there have been in years past.

Some of the fast 13/15 and senior Mako girls left for NCAP this year.

Many of the elite York young kids left. There isn’t a standout club from the northeast this year either.

They are not elite. Full stop. Stop saying it. They are strong swimmers.

I am with all the comments from other posters, elite is not a term for a young swimmer for all the reasons stated above but also because there are a lot less young swimmers to compare them to so the motivational standards are not as solid. Most younger kids are still learning to swim, have not opted to start swimming competitively yet, etc. So you have this 11&U field that has not filled out. Then you have an influx of part time swimmers who start taking it seriously that enter the swimming world and knock out those strong swimmers. Then the swim circle of life goes full circle with many kids (some really fast ones) leaving the sport in their teens because they would rather have a life than chase a black line up and down a pool.

I'm constantly stupefied by how much time people spend comparing psych sheets/results of different meets, looking at specific age groups and knowing the reasons why certain age groups got better/worse.

The 11-12 age group in general seems to be the weakest at this meet. Looks like many teams are only bringing 13 and older swimmers. NOVA of VA is there this year but seems to be only bringing 13-14s. Some teams send different age groups/levels to different meets.

Travel teams generally do team travel for 13&O so no young kids will attend from a team for that session. There are a lot of meets that don't even have finals for 12&U age group and just do timed finals for that session.

Makos is a decent team but I think if a kid is really committed you need a large cohort to push you at practice and it is in your interest to be on a team that attends the better meets. The meets that are going to push you.

Makos is a decent team but I think if a kid is really committed you need a large cohort to push you at practice and it is in your interest to be on a team that attends the better meets. The meets that are going to push you.

Unless a kid is winning every event with ease, which doesn't look like it will be the case for any PVS age grouper, a meet like winter classic, though not as fast as KLI, will push kids to get better. It's good for them to develop self motivation too on their own timeframe. Kids who learn to work hard when no one is looking or when no one else is pushing them will go far.
