No shade to the teenagers entered, because they are all great swimmers-- but none of them are going to be racing her in any sense of the word unless she comes in to do an easy stretch out mile. She will be so far ahead that 2nd and 3rd seed will be racing their internal clocks or their outside lane. It's a cool experience for sure, but not really a recipe for dropping time. |
KLI has long been a deeper meet. However, this year there aren’t the standouts at the top of the Winter Classic (State, NCAA, Olympic Champs) that there have been in years past. |
| Wow, KLI is even faster this year than in the past. Super cool that Katie Ledecky is actually swimming! |
| So awesome that Katie is swimming at the meet. I think I may go watch. |
Some of the fast 13/15 and senior Mako girls left for NCAP this year. |
Many of the elite York young kids left. There isn’t a standout club from the northeast this year either. |
Elite and young kids should not be used in the same sentence. |
Should it be used to describe Joe Flacco? |
Well the reason is those swimmers left and are with NCAP now and swimming at the KLI. So the wow swimmers are gone from winter classic. |
Elite and young???? That is hilarious. There is no such thing. I am guessing you are a parent of a young swimmer. Take it from the BTDT families - elite is a term you use for the older teen swimmers. The ones that have had their bodies change (sometimes betraying them and relearning to swim or killing them from the sport), weathered early morning practices and at a certain point without mommy or daddy pushing them, decide on their own to forego a lot because their love of the water is the most important thing in their life, etc. and pushing to get the next cut. That is an elite swimmer and that is not a thing with a little kid. Girls can start in that category at 13ish - but let's see what they are at 17. Boys don't even count until they hit 15 and they can keep going through college. |

Even after the departure of some strong swimmers, York still has the top-seeded 11-12 boys free relays in both 200 and 400. |
| How about "famous and young" swimmers? |
Yes, the point is this year’s 11-12 200 free relay seed time is three seconds slower than last year. Partially because last year included two 11 year-olds that are no longer with York. And JFC the panties in a twist over the calling a kid elite because they are elite by any measure of the word relative to their peers, but not compared to Gretchen Walsh at age 22. Chill out. Not everybody thinks their elementary schooler, no matter how good, is the next Torri Huske. |
The 11-12 age group in general seems to be the weakest at this meet. Looks like many teams are only bringing 13 and older swimmers. NOVA of VA is there this year but seems to be only bringing 13-14s. Some teams send different age groups/levels to different meets. |
