Is Turkey Classic a slower meet than Sport Fair?
How does the Ledecky meet compare? We are new to our club and are swimming the Winter Classic and don't know how it compares. |
Turkey Claus is a no faster than meet, providing a prelims/finals format for kids that don’t swim at the faster winter meets. Winter classic doesn’t have cut times, but is the fast meet for some area clubs and the coaches pick who swims in each age group. Katie Ledecky is the fast meet for other area clubs. There are cut times. It’s an extremely fast meet attracting talent from outside the area. There is an annual argument on this thread comparing winter classic to Katie Ledecky (formerly NCAP Invitational). They both have fast kids, but KL is faster. It’s plausible that the A finalists at winter classic may not make finals at all at KL, at least at the Open level. |

Here’s the psych sheet for KLI, which gives a comparison point for what it takes to be top 16 and get a 2nd swim at finals at these meets. I have a 13-14 swimmer going to KLI and in all of her events a sectional cut will be needed to make the A final.

Holy crap. That is a MUCH faster meet. |
| As an aside, looks like Katie Ledecky herself is going to swim the mile. Cool experience for the ladies swimming with her. |
I think you mean behind her. |
So what? They are in the same heat. People on this site just nitpick every word. Geez.

Thanks for sharing. |
I was actually thinking that kind of sucks for a HS senior thinking they were going to be able to win it this year, go out on top. But neat for everyone else. |
Eh. I’d argue that the time is more important than the place at a meet like this. If swimming against one of the greatest swimmers of all time helps drop a little time, second place is probably worth it for that swimmer. Not to mention having the chance to swim with that person is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most |
+1, my swimmer would kill to have the chance to swim with one of the best of all time in her best event (my kid is not a distance freestyler). She would not care at all if that meant she didn’t come in 1st. |
My kid would kill for that. |
