DH lost Credit card roulette...

Anonymous
For those saying they never have heard of it...I waited tables for decades on and off and had multiple groups play CC roulette and it sucks for the server because whoever gets pulled is usually salty. The worst is when they make the server do it. You can see it in their face. It has happened more than once that a really flush looking group ends up having a CC declined. I usually ended up playing their games right back and said I choose the one that ends with a 0 or other number so it was truly random. Picking it is...not. That means the server is the one who gets the nastiness when the loser (or winner?) gets selected.
The types who order multiple rounds of drinks, bottles of wine, spend all night taking up the table, want to joke around and make awkward conversation with the servers by pulling them into their group conversations/arguments. Stay out all night because they have babysitters and its their first time out in months...not sure who is more drunk, the women (have trouble walking the shoes they arrived in) or men (different shades of red and sweaty). Typically, tables of white suburban couples.

Men tend to play it as well but at the bar or in smaller groups. A check for 4 dudes is different than a check for 4 couples, especially when all of them have expensive preferences.

IMO just pick up the check for the group (to really show the BDE) or everyone just split the check.

It's very possible to exceed your credit limit that high. I unfortunately am in that boat myself at the moment

There's no such thing as over the limit $4500.
How does a grown man not have another card to pay the under $400 tab? That's not a whole lot if they have been paying for him previously and seems like there were a lot of people there.
He is just bad at money and so are you, because what in the world is 'over the limit $4500'?
You not knowing your own financial situation or controlling it is the problem, not a card being declined.
It's not even embarrassing as long as you hand another card. Happens sometimes for no reason. Maybe he froze that card and forgot or there was already a bigger purchase pending.

You're socializing out of your league

That game is HORRIFYING to me and I'd never hang out with people who play it.

WTF is credit card roulette??

So this game was done at the request of one of our friends. My husband handles all of our finances, I let him deal with that.

We each have our own separate credit cards but I am not aware of what he owes on his until he told me. The total bill for the evening was roughly $385.

For those who are not aware this is an actual game and we have played it before but he has never once been selected and I think he assumed that he wouldn't be selected this time and that's why there was a lot of shock when the card came back declined.

You know that friend is broke too. Who ended up paying that tab?

It was already explained earlier in the thread.

Let me guess. The friend who ordered apps, cocktails, and dinner wine? I would be 1 and done with that group.

You should run regular credit checks on him, make sure you aren’t a co-borrower on any of his cards, and otherwise separate finances, including taxes. Also you should have separate savings/brokerage accounts and make sure he can't access your 401k or the kids’ 529 plans. In addition, work on the marriage.

Yeah how is it possible to be $4500 over your limit?

How does the server know the exact amount over limit? Or is this OP's husband coming clean?

If you're willing to offer me constructive advice I will take it but if you're here to just label me as a troll or give Starkey responses then please don't reply.

We do have adult woman trolls that post here regularly; some are quite prolific. Assuming you are telling the truth, why didn't you immediately pull out your credit card and pay?

OP needs new friends and possibly a new husband.
