Do teens have lots of sleepovers in high school?

OP here. Guilty as charged! I'm both permissive and lazy. And I think sleepovers are great for social development and they make my kid happy. If encouraging close friendship and connection is a crime, I'm guilty!

f you live in a area where students live far apart (private school or 1 high school per county) it's standard. A friend comes for the weekend, or most of it.

Parents don't want to drive, or have their kid drive a far distance, just to turn around again.

It’s often a cover for getting drunk, sneaking out, staying out all night, or having sex. That’s gotta be obvious to people thought right??

I just don’t see how people think this. Don’t you all have tracking on your kids? I check where my kids are all the time. They’d cut their arm off before they left their phone so I’m pretty confident I know where they are and they aren’t out carousing.

I mean yeah it is possible but I am not going to keep my kid locked up at night.

That poster was likely talking about access to alcohol, etc in HS

Yes. They want to be able to hang out late. And get away with late night antics.

I had girls at my house and vice versa constantly every weekend freshman and sophomore year but now that my daughter drives, it’s WAY less. She has 2 friends who live pretty far and these 2 friends still sleep over fairly often.

This. DS and his group of friends got caught smoking pot at a sleepover right before school got out. He is no longer allowed to go to sleepovers

Nope not to the parents who insist they’re just staying up late eating snacks.

I went to a lot of sleep overs as a kid. Many of them were very innocent and my girl friends ans I just stayed up all night talking and prank calling and eating junk food..

However, I also went to sleep overs with very permissive parents that allowed us to drink and do other things.

My sophomore still has them. They are definitely not finding girls or going to parties but I’m not convinced they aren’t getting into parents liquor, etc. one parent in the friend group is checked out and the boys sneak out in the middle of the night. We are in DC so that part worries me, otherwise I’m glad the kids are close and enjoy each others company. Friendships are the key to a happy life.

We stopped doing sleepovers in middle school. Too many ways to get in trouble. If was different when I was a teen, but now that they all have smart phones, no way.

Like I said, the parents don’t care. They are the permissive type.

Are you checking their location at 2am? Most parents are sleeping but if you’re up all night checking more power to you. They sneak out to local parks or let kids into the house. Also yes, they will leave their phones behind to do this.
