And please name the school where this is happening. 37 year olds are not the kind of thing undergrads are thinking of when they are working through college housing options. |
Your friend needs to reference that event when they make a formal complaint to the school. Usually they don't listen to parents for these things, and roommates have limited ability to complain before "something bad" happens, because they're all supposed to embrace meeting new people. It's only fear of something similar happening on their campus that will motivate the administration to move things around. This 37 year old might be entirely innocent of any desire to manipulate his roommates. But safety comes first. |
| My sophomore told me under 21s were never placed with under 21s but she wasn’t sure about older ( or much older) than 21s. |
|
At our DC's university, undergraduates who are 26 or older are housed in graduate housing.
Does this university have any graduate housing? |
| Man, on my freshman hall there was one nontraditional age student who was living in a double. She was 25, we were all 18. And her roommate was livid that she wasn't getting an 18 year old to room with. And this was same sex and 25, not opposite sex and 37. |
| Looks like they do but on quickly googling “upperclassman” and “grad student” are lumped together and I do know my friends daughter has junior status interns of credits bc of ap credits. |
|
Please name the college. There is no way a normal 37 year old man is going to think it is OK to share a dorm with 19 year olds. 100% chance the guy is creepy.
Unfortunately now that he has moved in the school is going to be afraid to get sued if they move the man out. Your friend's daughter now needs to come up with her own disability or trauma to be able to move. I would be instructing my daughter to yell at the top of her lungs at 2 am saying she woke up and is having a nightmare because of past trauma and living with a grown ass creepy man is making her re-live it. |
that would be grossly discriminatory. |
| She signed up for gender inclusive housing. She has a male roommate. The end. |
Not really bc another 19 year old of any gender would have been fine-the 37 is the problem, |
Why? |
19 is also “grown ass” |
| Do you write YA novels too or just these daily fanciful postings? |
I'd lawsuit it. I don't think any college wants to be known as the school that's forcing 18 year old girls to room with 37 year old men. Find that school. It doesn't exist. This was probably an administrative idiot and subsequent error. The moment the university lawyers get wind of this, it will be resolved. No university wants that limelight. |
Would it be discriminatory if they offered this person housing elsewhere, such as for grad students? |
