198 Democrats Voted Against the SAVE Act

“Under the current National Voter Registration Act, individuals attest to their citizenship by checking a box on registration forms. However, the SAVE Act proposes significant changes, requiring prospective voters to furnish documentation proving their citizenship. Accepted forms of proof include a U.S. passport, a photo ID card issued with proof of citizenship, or a combination of a photo ID and supporting documents like a birth certificate.

For those lacking these documents, states would gain access to federal agency databases to verify citizenship status for voter registration purposes, according to the text of the bill. The bill also includes provisions to remove noncitizens from voter rolls and grants discretion to the Department of Homeland Security to deport noncitizens found to have illegally registered to vote.“

Sounds good to me. Most countries require voter ID - why shouldn't we? Who on earth would vote against this?

Curious to me that we haven’t seen an answer yet on this thread.

You know why.

It seems like most of the accidental registrations happened during Covid, so it’s probably fine now.

This problem goes back at least a decade on reddit, likely further.

This flagrant disrespect for voting integrity is entirely inexcusable.

Dems are going to fight this tooth and nail.

Because it’s true. Look up.

There already are plenty of checks to ensure that non-citizens don't get to vote.

The nonsense fearmongering that Republicans keep spreading about illegals voting has repeatedly been debunked. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/may/20/mike-johnson/mike-johnsons-false-claim-that-immigrants-paroled/

This is the same party that doesn't believe in national borders and embraces one world government. Are you surprised?

Why won't you answer a simple question: why are you opposed to U.S. citizens being required to show ID at the voting booth, just as countries around the world require of their citizens?

Democrats: this is not a winning issue for you. Opposing something as basic as voter ID makes you look like idiots.

But with voter ID they’d never win another race.

What absolute BS. Why can’t those “black voices, brown voices, LGBTQ voices” simply show up to vote with their ID, like everyone else? Are certain groups - as she calls them - somehow exempt from obtaining and showing their ID? Why are Democrats so incredibly stupid?
