198 Democrats Voted Against the SAVE Act

Anonymous
My former college friend is Mexican. She said her grandmother who never worked a job outside of babysitting the kids , and doesn’t speak English or have citizenship got summoned for jury duty twice since 2005. They called to clear up the Error and it was chalked up to a naming issue because she had the same first and last name as other Hispanics that were citizens .

“Under the current National Voter Registration Act, individuals attest to their citizenship by checking a box on registration forms. However, the SAVE Act proposes significant changes, requiring prospective voters to furnish documentation proving their citizenship. Accepted forms of proof include a U.S. passport, a photo ID card issued with proof of citizenship, or a combination of a photo ID and supporting documents like a birth certificate.

For those lacking these documents, states would gain access to federal agency databases to verify citizenship status for voter registration purposes, according to the text of the bill. The bill also includes provisions to remove noncitizens from voter rolls and grants discretion to the Department of Homeland Security to deport noncitizens found to have illegally registered to vote.“

Sounds good to me. Most countries require voter ID - why shouldn't we? Who on earth would vote against this?

In fact, EVERY other country requires voter ID.

Democrats just can’t win without cheating.

And these other countries also make it easily accessible to get a voter ID. You, of course, conveniently deny this point, which is the problem. With your lot, it's always projection. Why did Alabama close down a bunch of DMV in poor areas when there wasn't a recession? Hmmm? Why are you against making voter IDs cheap and accessible?

Voter IDs ARE cheap and accessible.

Saying it doesn't make it true. But I love how writing it BOLD makes it more persuasive. How about doing a little research on the facts? You know, the bare minimum to have an opinion?

Show us all the exorbitantly expensive and inaccessible IDs towns across America.

Nope. We've already shown you some evidence. How about YOU do some research since you're so confident in your position.

What evidence? You referred to the closure of dmvs? Many states allow noncitizens including illegals to obtain a driver’s license. That’s not proof of citizenship and yet states like CA use driver license registration to sign up to vote.

You can even become a police officer in California if you’re illegal

National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA): This act requires that states provide voter registration forms that include an affirmation that the registrant is a U.S. citizen.

Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA): This law mandates that first-time voters who register by mail provide identification to verify their identity and citizenship.

Also, the Constitution effectively limits voting to citizens.

This bill is redundant, accomplishes nothing new, wasted time and money, and was nothing but performative theater by the Republicans for no good reason other than to feed into their BS narrative that illegal aliens are "replacing" Americans at the polls and everywhere else. These false Republican claims have repeatedly been debunked and disproven. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/may/20/mike-johnson/mike-johnsons-false-claim-that-immigrants-paroled/

This is the fact.

"National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA): This act requires that states provide voter registration forms that include an affirmation that the registrant is a U.S. citizen."

And, in some states, the only affirmation that is required is the registrant checks a box. That's it.
So, yes - this law is needed.

We have upward of 20 million people in our country illegally. If only 1% of them voted in a federal election, that would be 200,000 illegal votes. Enough to change the outcome of races depending upon where these people reside.

The claims that there are any substantial amounts of illegals voting have been repeatedly debunked, and where they did try to vote, they were caught.
The laws are sufficient and the system works.

How do we know that? Sure, some were caught. But, were there more? And, might there be more widespread voter fraud in the future?
And "substantial amounts (numbers, actually)" is what exactly? How many is "substantial?"
In my opinion "substantial" is exactly one. Not too long ago a race in VA was decided by a coin flip because it ended up tied. One vote makes a difference.

What do you mean "more" widespread voter fraud in the future? There wasn't widespread voter fraud in the first place, for there to then subsequently be "more" of. #StopTheSteal was nothing but a desperate, deranged conspiracy theory.

There is widespread voter fraud. When you’re at the DMV, you can register to vote . They don’t ask if you’re a citizen . Sanctuary states allow illegals to get drivers license and register them to vote as well . It’s super easy to register to vote. One can even do so online

It sounds like you didn’t read the bill or you would realize that the “affirmation” of citizenship is exactly what is being changed. Another change is the deportation of those found to have voted illegally. Why are you so determined to insist the bill is irrelevant instead of helping us to understand why Dems opposed it?

This doesn’t conflict with what I wrote. The “mostly false” was the allegation that no states verify. Politifact did not say all states do.

“… federal form to register to vote doesn’t require documentation to prove citizenship. But applicants who use that federal form, or register using state forms, must attest to being citizens.”

Again, self attest. That means check a box.

The bill is trying to back up that attention with actual documents.

Democrats don’t want people to have to prove citizenship if they attest.

You can also be in the military if you aren’t a citizen which is why this bill wants to make sure you don’t just supply a military ID to vote.

Democrats know they can’t ever win without cheating. Their open border policies are crushing America. Any they don’t even care.

NP- If anyone is in Alabama, you can request a mobile unit visit. They even can come to your house to get you a voter ID:

Don't let Perfect be the enemy of Good. Save the nuance for when guys like John McCain or Mitt Romney are on the ballot.

PP just dropping in again with a friendly reminder that, as the posts after this one demonstrate, by voting against the Save Act,
Democrats have needlessly given MAGA influencers a hunk of bloody meat to toss into the throng of MAGA hobbledehoys.

This is not the time for principled stands. MAGA doesn't do nuance.

Mostly false is mostly false. You are welcome to provide examples of where non-citizens checked the box and voted fraudulently BUT YOU CAN'T because non-citizen voter fraud is extremely rare and gets caught when it happens.

Our system is such a mess. They don’t know who’s voting and guess what? All of the votes take SIX weeks to be counted for yet we announce the winner the night of using “predictions” and we wait for at least 80-90% of the votes to come in. Our system is embarrassingly sad and broken and like everything else ran by government , it is rampant with fraud

It's not "such a mess" - they DO know who's voting and when fraud happens, it happens in astronomically tiny numbers, and they get caught. There was no "steal" - and investigation after investigation, recount after recount, lawsuit after lawsuit shot down the allegations of fraud. Like it or not, Trump lost. You just don't like the fact that Trump lost. That DOES NOT mean the election was stolen from him.
