Non-citizens are already prohibited from voting by numerous laws and statutes, for example:

18 U.S. Code § 611: This federal law explicitly prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections, stating: "It shall be unlawful for any alien to vote in any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner, unless (1) the election is held partly for some other purpose; (2) aliens are authorized to vote for such other purpose under a State constitution or statute or a local ordinance; and (3) voting for such other purpose is conducted independently of voting for one of the offices referred to in this subsection."

National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA): This act requires that states provide voter registration forms that include an affirmation that the registrant is a U.S. citizen.

Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA): This law mandates that first-time voters who register by mail provide identification to verify their identity and citizenship.

Also, the Constitution effectively limits voting to citizens.

This bill is redundant, accomplishes nothing new, wasted time and money, and was nothing but performative theater by the Republicans for no good reason other than to feed into their BS narrative that illegal aliens are "replacing" Americans at the polls and everywhere else. These false Republican claims have repeatedly been debunked and disproven. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/ma...-immigrants-paroled/

It sounds like you didn’t read the bill or you would realize that the “affirmation” of citizenship is exactly what is being changed. Another change is the deportation of those found to have voted illegally. Why are you so determined to insist the bill is irrelevant instead of helping us to understand why Dems opposed it?

"Just check a box and vote" rated mostly false - https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/de...ters-federal-electi/

This doesn’t conflict with what I wrote. The “mostly false” was the allegation that no states verify. Politifact did not say all states do.

“… federal form to register to vote doesn’t require documentation to prove citizenship. But applicants who use that federal form, or register using state forms, must attest to being citizens.”

Again, self attest. That means check a box.

The bill is trying to back up that attention with actual documents.

Democrats don’t want people to have to prove citizenship if they attest.

Mostly false is mostly false. You are welcome to provide examples of where non-citizens checked the box and voted fraudulently BUT YOU CAN'T because non-citizen voter fraud is extremely rare and gets caught when it happens.

Once again, slowly.

“Mostly false” was in response to Trump’s allegation that NO states verify which is 1) not what we are talking about here and 2) not what I wrote. Politifact said that some but not all states verify.

Politifact also pointed out that in some states you can self attest without providing backup documentation and that those states don’t verify.

That is actually what this bill is attempting to resolve.

I hope this clarifies why your link isn’t backing up what you think it is and is helpful for my argument not yours.

As for documentation of illegal voting, look a few posts up at the Washington times article with evidence from PA and TX.

It's not resolving anything because the laws are already on the books and there's no evidence of widespread illegal alien voter fraud happening in the states that don't verify. It's nothing but political theater.

And, yet, we have states allowing illegal migrants to acquire driver's licenses using a form that also permits the applicant to register to vote. And, the only verification of citizenship is a box checked by the applicant with no other verification needed.

Of course Democrats don't view this as a problem. Bring in millions and look the other way when they begin voting in federal elections.

False. The mandatory documentation is not on the books now nor are the enforcement tools for illegal immigrants who vote. Read the bill.

Liar. Read the bill.
Democrats can’t win without cheating.
Why?

Anyone who thinks that noncitizens will not vote in the upcoming election is simply naive.

States that are actually checking their voting rolls are finding thousands of illegal aliens registered.

Alabama:

And then there is this:

The U.S. Department of Justice said an illegal immigrant has reached an agreement to plead guilty to charges related to stealing a U.S. citizen's identity to vote in multiple elections and fraudulently obtain an American passport.

Angelica Maria Francisco, a 42-year-old undocumented individual who most recently resided in Russellville, Alabama, is facing a nine-count information filed in federal court for false claims of citizenship in connection with voting, false statements in application for a United States passport, use of a United States passport obtained by false statements, and aggravated identity theft.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/doj-illegal-immigr...in-american-passport

The piece doesn’t specify what the plea entails as far as punishment but it damn well better include jail time then immediate deportation.

Thus far, there is no proof of non citizens voting in presidential elections. This is nothing more than trump trying to suppress votes of minorities.

Total BS.

They don’t want proof of citizenship to register to vote and don’t want voter id to vote because they cheat and want illegal immigrants voting in our elections. That’s why they are bringing all of these illegal immigrants into the country.

+1 Why the hell we don't issue Voter IDs based on citizenship is beyond me. We have the technology. Use it. Undocumented illegal immigrants and asylum seekers should NOT be allowed to vote. Period.
