No higher bmi does not necessarily bring on other risks. An obese BMI could.., have high blood pressure but only in 25% of obese people, could cause T2D but only in 30%. Can’t even imagine how low those numbers are for a 27 BMI. |
My BMI is 27.2 and I wear a size 10. I am 10 pounds away from a BMI of 25. I am overweight but not huge.
At 63yo, I can live with his. |
But you’re not obese. |
If the guidelines shift to 27 then she would be, which is ridiculous. Frankly, BMI is a bunch of bs And my doctor says to ignore it. My BMI is 25 and I’m ripped. I am healthier at this size than when I was anorexic with BMI 20. |
They should probably base the definitions on % body fat, but bmi is easier to measure quickly. |
This is it. |
Many of the women pose with their legs crossed or in other slimming poses, which defeats the point. |
My trainer is BMI 26 and she is gorgeous (I saw her wedding pictures - flawless). She’s just incredibly strong and has natural curves. Of course not all BMI 26 are like that but many of us pear-shaped ladies have very strong legs and arms but slim middles. |
The military had to stop using BMI because it’s so ridiculous. |
27 was actually found to be the healthiest BMI in one study: https://www.shape.com/weight-loss/management/healthiest-bmi-actually-overweight-says-new-study I’m 48 with BMI 26.5 and I do want to lose 10-15 lbs, but I think it’s a perfectly healthy weight for women in their 50s-60s as long as all your other stats are good and you exercise. The women with very low BMIs, especially the ones who don’t get there naturally but really control their eating, start to appear fragile and unhealthy at 60. |
Nope, some are sideways just to show that they don’t have rolls on their stomach. |
Clearly you don’t understand what “risk” means or the correlations and percentages. I highly recommend you get your doctor to explain this to you. |
You sound like the average 63 year old with realistic expectations. You do have increased risk for certain things, but the increase is probably not that high and as you stated something you can live with. Others should take a leaf from your book of happiness. |
That's b/c BMI is garbage if you actually have muscle on your body. |
And 99% of people don’t actually have the muscle to fat ratio required for a BMI calculation to be considered garbage. Yet all 1% are on this board somehow. Amazing that intersection of reality. |
