27 should be considered obese BMI now?!

Anonymous
There is a new suggestion obese should be 27 BMI + ! It seems really crazy to me. I was there not so long ago and definitely didn't look huge or have big health issues.

27 BMI IS huge. Even for an American.

Someone posted about being prediabetic the other day. Said their BMI was 24. I happened to be in a doctor's office, and they had a BMI chart. At my height, I'd have to be like 165 lbs. to be 24 BMI and that's still normal weight. That's 30 lbs more than I am now and would be FAT. Most American's are fat.

Are you saying 24 BMI is fat?

This is Noro Novodisk’s new strategy. Bernie is pushing on them to cut the price, and they respond by pushing on insurance to cover.

So if we’re bringing the obesity threshold down from 30 to 27, then overweight threshold decreases from 25 to 22.

Watch out, muscle mommies.

I don't know. I'm a 6' guy and 27 BMI is 200 pounds. I've been everywhere from 180-215 in my adult life and it was only when I was above 200 that I started to look overweight. Not huge.

It seems like they are really just angling for obese vs not, with no more "overweight" category. Either you are at-risk for diabetes/heart disease or you aren't.

I’m sorry but I would agree this is overweight.

If you think that, you have serious body image issues
