We aren’t talking about UVA vs Princeton, these are two almost identical schools. Similar “preppy southern” vibes at both too

Exactly! 1000% go to Florida! Honestly, I think a lot of people in the north is finally realizing and/or admitting that UF is a specular school- great education, great price ( for in state and out of state - though definitely cheap for in state), and very prestigious. Every year, the school gets more competitive. Also, if you got into Honor's even better. But even without Honors, it is definitely worth it

I disagree, its reputation has started to decline since Sasse was named president.

The Florida boosterism is starting to rival the Northeastern boosters, and that isn’t a compliment.

UF Honors college is a special place. The program carves out a small residential-feeling community in a huge university. I think it is the best of both worlds.

I could hang out in the intellectually intense honors residence hall and also go to football games and take classes in any major area that interested me.

I’m one of those national merit kids who got a free ride, then my parents were able to pay for grad school for both of their kids.

UF would obviously be far less expensive - instate tuition <$10k.

UVA is well-respected, especially in the mid-atlantic. While UF is a pretty highly ranked public, I'm just not sure. Looking for opinions...

UVA is more than 70k. Add the Florida in-state tuition to the 70k and you have what it costs — 80k, or more depending on major. But you would know that if DC was actually choosing between these schools.

I see now that you have DC Tag and the major is computer science. UVA is 90k for CS and with DC Tag it’s still 80. Sure you get DC Tag with in-state tuition eligibility?

UF of course.

Depends on the major.. If Engineering or CS, it doesn't matter. UVA is not that highly ranked. If Business or other areas where UVA is highly ranked, def. go to UVA. While they are ranked closely on US News, UF is a tier below UVA (much like UVA is a tier below UMich/berkeley/UCLA for certain domains, especially STEM).

if its a direct admit to business at UF that may be a better choice because UVA does not provide a direct admit. Its an additional stress on the kid.

With DCTag and the major choice, it's around 70. Nice attitude, though. You seem a little jealous.

I know a Maryland kid who went to UF for CS, came back to an excellent six-figure job in the DMV. I can’t see how UVA CS could possibly be worth the difference in price.

Except for the fact that Florida is a top 30 school and NEU is not.

It's not. UF is the clear choice.

Also, unlike NEU, UF is much harder to get into- lots of kids with SATs in the mid to upper 1500s are being rejected.
