NP. Are you sure that's the argument you want to make? NEU had a single digit acceptance rate last year. |
It's 90, and 80 with DC tag for CS, which is part of Engineering and higher tuition and fees. Not jealous of people who can't read: https://sfs.virginia.edu/financial-aid-new-applicants/financial-aid-basics/estimated-undergraduate-cost-attendance-2024-2025 |
This is forum is crazy. I would go in state UF. As someone with a child at UVA, I would keep that money so they could go to grad school. Both schools are equally fantastic and you aren't going to get anything out of UVA that you can't at UF. |
Have to confirm with Florida if DC TAG agreement allows this. For example, Penn State clearly does not:
"DCTAG pays the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition, up to $10,000 annually ($5,000 per semester) at public colleges and up to $2,500 at private colleges in DC and private HBCUs, nationwide. Students that pay in-state tuition at their college or university are not eligible to receive DCTAG." https://www.bursar.psu.edu/faq/resident-washington-dc-can-dctag-help-reduce-my-tuition-cost-penn-state#:~:text=DCTAG%20pays%20the%20difference%20between,not%20eligible%20to%20receive%20DCTAG. |
Appears that 9 out of 10 posters agree with you that UF is the way to go. |
No DC TAG: "Students that pay in-state tuition at their college or university are not eligible to receive DCTAG." https://osse.dc.gov/publication/dctag-fast-facts-brochure You're welcome! |
It’s either/or. Either in-state tuition or DCTAG. But either way, UF is going to be less than half the cost of UVA. |
This is an anonymous forum. They could all be the same person. It could also be a bunch of people who know nothing. Could be bots. |
I would only choose UF because it is in state. Are these the only two options your DC has? I would never choose UF over UVA under any other circumstance. |
BACS is 10k less than a BSCS. |
I know that there are posters here who are overly hostile toward Red State schools, but the problem with Florida is that Florida is really at war with its state universities. Faculty members posting on message boards sound really angry and demoralized. I’d want to tour UF and talk to faculty members in private about what they think before I chose it over UVa. And maybe I’d rather go to an even more conservative, lower-ranked school that was at peace with its state. |
The one that used to be #5 and fell to #6. |
This was my question too, and it doesn't look like the OP has come back to answer it. I'm from Florida and my parents still live there so we looked into this and it is very limited. If memory serves the state allocates somewhere around 300 total per year and that is divided between all their state schools. |

This is the easiest choice in the history of DCUM. Florida. |
