Well Russia tried to warn us about the Tsarnaev brothers and we ignored them.

Of course they did, but they will claim “unbelievable chatter”. I’m of the mindset that they withheld information from Netanyahu so that it would look like he was to blame for this. Yes, they hate him THAT much.

Taliban was selling our weapons left in Afghanistan on the black market almost immediately after our withdrawal.

Wow you are a lunatic.

+1.

It's also, strictly speaking, not our (the United States') responsibility.

Egypt also gave Israel the intel, and we’re ignored, so… 🤷

Hamas blew multiple holes through the border wall, disabled the early warning systems, and over-ran multiple entry check points and military outposts. Further, Israel had the border completely under-manned and staffed mostly by reserve soldiers (not the full-time professional soldiers).

Israel was caught completely flat-footed. It's almost incomprehensible.

Yes. It really is. When I lived there in the mid-aughts there was a women who was a friend of a friend who lived in the south of Israel - when the war started in 2014 she left her house and was living in her office or on her friend's couches because she was absolutely terrified that Hamas was going to come through tunnels and kidnap people out of their homes. We thought she was paranoid. Iron Dome was working and of course Hamas wasn't going to come across the constantly heavily guarded border. It's mind boggling that it actually happened.

Israel is not the United States. Our intelligence should be dedicated to our own protection not some far flung land that most jews have never stepped foot in and have no intention to do so.

Well maybe Bibi knew what he was doing?

For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces
The premier’s policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from

For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group.

The idea was to prevent Abbas — or anyone else in the Palestinian Authority’s West Bank government — from advancing toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Thus, amid this bid to impair Abbas,
Hamas was upgraded from a mere terror group to an organization with which Israel held indirect negotiations via Egypt, and one that was allowed to receive infusions of cash from abroad.

]Hamas was also included in discussions about increasing the number of work permits Israel granted to Gazan laborers,
which kept money flowing into Gaza, meaning food for families and the ability to purchase basic products.

Israeli officials said these permits, which allow Gazan laborers to earn higher salaries than they would in the enclave, were a powerful tool to help preserve calm.

Toward the end of Netanyahu’s fifth government in 2021, approximately 2,000-3,000 work permits were issued to Gazans. This number climbed to 5,000 and, during the Bennett-Lapid government, rose sharply to 10,000.

This is shocking. Talk about intelligence failure. This was just dumb.

There was no intelligence failure. Netanyahu knew exactly what was coming, both from internal and external sources.

Oh the other thing that is the number of missing vs those accounted for are not adding up and reporters are having a hard time track the source of the 150 hostages. There might be a lot more hostages.

Hopefully it is the fog of war but questions are being asked.

Reminder... the majority of "our" weapons left in Afghanistan weren't ours - they had been transferred over to Afghan National Army and Afghan Police over the span of 20 years, including by Trump. And more recently it's coming to light that Russian PMCs - Wagner and Redut were training and equipping Hamas, including with Western weapons captured on the Ukraine front. A lot of this is being done deliberately to provide propaganda points to try and discredit the West.

Add to it some Ukrainian corruption that allowed for selling weapons to whoever was ready to buy

Do you think he needed an excuse to solve the “Palestinian problem” once and for all?

It’s dumb but destroying the possibility of a Palestinian state appears to have been the top priority to Netanyahu and Israeli voters.

DP. I think this too. He ignored the Egyptian warnings because he underestimated how vicious the attack would be.
