Are Teslas Basically Corollas Now?

Huh? From my own Indian-American perspective, people in my community are getting Tesla for their drive-around-the-town car that is eco-friendly. It is not seen as elite but a very pragmatic choice in terms of reliability, eco-friendly, cost, features, maintenance, safety etc. Maybe it appeals to our nerdy and cost-conscious mindset? And you can bet your bottom dollar that most of these owners also have a cost-effective way to charge their cars most of the time - solar at home or free at work.

Also, not an easy car to carjack or steal! An important consideration due to the worsening law and order situation of the country.

My husband drives an electric jaguar because the Tesla’s seemed so cheap and basic. A friend just bought the Rivan suv and it is really nice.

Yes, they have gotten down the Xitter.

This all just confirms OP’s original point. It’s a Corolla now. Not a cool car

I support promoting banned books in middle school and shutting down free speach on social media.

Well, your guess about people is wrong. You should try being open minded and work on figuring out where your anger comes from.

First there are only very few EVs cheaper than the Model 3, and most of the cheaper ones aren't that great. If you were after elitism and status, you would be getting the EVs from Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Porche, Polestar or Lucid.

The people I know with Tesla's were skeptical, then drove one. Or their first motive was to go electric, and after comparing the options, bought the one that was a reasonable price, drove best, and took them further with better infrastructure, in spite of its looks. So yes, in that way the Model 3 is the new reasonably priced, reliable family car.

You really can't argue with it once you drive it; it is that different from other cars. And once you drive it, you also don't care what it looks like (if you did care, then that elitism and status idea might have some traction, but then you wouldn't have bought one).

Nah, the Corolla is a significantly better car.

Tesla was always aiming to provide affordable EV's (Model 3). Of course they are now ubiquitous. It's also like the PP said. They are actually an economic choice in the long-term and eco-friendly.

I'm waiting for the Highland. When is it coming? Selling my crap Honda. I will buy some kind of individual stock (ofcourse I know which one), and then pay for the Tesla with it, slowly. I don't see it as fancy luxury car at all. It is the new Corolla, just look at the price. I want the car that makes no statement. I also don't want one that has 1000s of pieces that can break. It only makes statement for the people who still think it's an expensive car. Heck with Elon, I'd rather never set foot into dealership again. Ran into three crooks on one day while buying the Honda.
Now, if DC allowed Tesla insurance, I'd be set.
There are plenty of crazy CEOs. I couldn't buy anything if I only go by the company's CEO. Lululemon comes to mind.

made me smile. Yes. Toyota production quality is MUCH higher than Tesla (Toyota will fix every small error and only sends out new cars that are in perfect condition. Tesla does not have the same quality standards. Profit margin on Tesla used to be way higher -- all that means is that the actual quality of the car is much worse than what people are willing to pay.)

And when you have a minor crash with a Tesla - bye bye.

Insurers are totaling them rather than repair them. My 12-year old Volvo has been in two accidents and the other cars were worse off.

Teslas are ubiquitous and unimpressive. I often see many in a row, driving or parked. Not original, not cool, just plain Jane.

Didn't the price of Telsas come WAY down? Why would anyone think they are special?

Tesla was never a cool car. It was different, and we waited until it wasn’t so new to buy one. And I’m not gonna sell my car, that I love, and possibly take a loss, because of what someone else thinks of Elon musk. Just like I’m not gonna stop the convenience of Amazon, delivering in two days to my door, because of others’ perception of Bezos or Jassy.

I cannot believe the comments people are making about a stranger’s CAR. Most on this thread sound like “sour grapes”. Why do you even care!?
