Republican Hardliners Rolled and the future of McCarthy

McCarthy first screwed himself by striking a deal with the MAGAs.

But then he double screwed himself when he went back on his May deal with the White House and House Dems.

No one can trust him now.

This will hopefully get resolved by having 5-6 Biden-District GOP side with dems to put Jefferies in office with the promise that other than bringing the budget to the floor in timely manner, no other significant legislation gets approved unless those coalition members support it as well.

The House will otherwise not have any business to conduct, but what is a year anyhow?

This was always the foreseeable result of the freedom caucus trying to hijack the whole party. After last year’s election, I recall saying McCarthy was going to have a hell of a time trying to wrangle the House republicans.

Let’s see if people keep voting for MAGA types after they all shoot themselves in the foot.

Republicans in disarray.

I must admit, I always thought democrats would bail McCarthy out. And maybe they would have if he had kept his debt deal promise. But he can’t be trusted.

But what nut job will the GOP put in McCarthy’s place? I just don’t see any “moderate” republicans throwing their vote behind Jeffries.

I don't see anyone being able to get the votes. Acceptable to the freedom caucus is unacceptable to normal people and vice versa

Treason. The Democrats have a responsibility to Speaker McCarthy and the non-MAGA GOP to confirm McCarthy as Speaker. It's incredibly selfish of Jeffries to be SO ambitious that he throws McCarthy under the bus.

Jeffries was supposed to build a better relationship with the Speaker than did Nancy Pelosi. Yeah. Instead he stabs McCarthy in the back at the darkest hour.

The Democrats should confirm McCarthy with no conditions. If the GOP Conference comes back and holds to the 8% spending cuts, well elections have consequences. Don't overthrow McCarthy's victory because he's dealing with his own AOCs.

Can you name a single instance where republicans votes for a democratic speaker to retain the gavel?

Do you remember how on Sunday, McCarthy blamed the event of last week on the Democrats? no? Ok, go take a look and then come back here and tell us why Jefferies and the Democrats should be working with someone who goes back on their deals and publicly back stabs them.

The Democrats won't bail out McCarthy because they don't trust him. Latest example - McCarthy not honoring the spending level deal he made with the Senate and Biden in June.

Why would the Democrats save him? The committees will still be stacked against them, sending partisan nonsense to the floor and holding partisan hearings. The Rules Committee will still not allow Democratic amendments. McCarthy isn’t offering Democrats any input into the House agenda or schedule.

Republicans tried to stop the motion to oust McCarthy - looks like it failed.

Next will be the vote to oust him

Dude, McCarthy chucked the Democrats under the bus big time on Face the Nation. Unbelievable betrayal after they gave him the votes to pass the bill.
