They didn't vote "with" the 8 cuckoos. They voted against the guy who repeatedly went back on deals he previously agreed to, they voted against the guy who repeatedly screwed them over, the guy who had no genuine interest in working with them.

The lesson here is: If you think you might some day need the other side's help to bail you out of a difficult situation, maybe don't be such a-holes to them, don't be such extremists, don't repeatedly reneg on deals, don't repeatedly screw them over.

Posted on another thread but it really belongs here. I read somewhere that Kevin assumed Dems would balk at his last-minute CR proposal, that the gov't would close, and that Dems would get blamed. But Dems accepted the deal and that was the end of Kevin.

So true! It’s coming out the Problem Solvers met, GOP asked Dems to help Kevin, Dems said they needed to have more parity in committees and do change the MTV rule so that one member couldn’t throw House in disarray. GOP refused.

GOP “bipartisanship” means Dems do what that ask with nothing in return. Kevin and his buddies are so stupid.

McCarthy's own words:

But then he goes on to say that Pelosi said she'd save him.

He recounted a conversation he said happened between him and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), whom he told he was having trouble getting votes in his party to become speaker because he wasn’t immediately willing to bend to demands that he change House rules to allow one member to trigger the ouster process. “She said, ‘Just give it to them. I’ll always back you up. I made the same offer to Boehner, the same thing to Paul [Ryan], because I believe in the institution.’ I think today was a political decision by the Democrats,” he said after they voted with eight Republicans to oust him.

He wants to appear like he's a die hard R, but then admits he needs Dems to save him.

So, no, Dems had no reason to back him.
