GEN Z will save America....

Gen X-er here. The more I converse with my Gen Z kids, the bluer my perspective becomes. I shed bias, prejudice and privileged opinion every single day! I do not think I would ever vote another Republican in my life time.

Most of us will be voting for President for first time in November 2024. In 2022, we all showed up and saved you all and Dems kept the Senate, and only lose a few seats in the house, but now we want action. WE want REAL GUN CONTROL. We don't our kids to have go to though the same lockdowns and fears of a school shooting we had too.

We want college loan reforms.
We want living wage and want to buy a house one day.
We know it won't be done with soon, but we want it to be a work in process, meet us halfway please.

On the college front, we really need to scrutinize college tuition. I’ll bet there is very little understanding among the regents and president of how money is really spent.

Also, hopefully this idea that every well paying job requires a college degree needs to be addressed as well. Vocational education needs to be elevated as a viable path and not some second rate one.

College tuition s inflated because of the many loans and subsidies. If people had to pay full price then schools would have to slash tuition or else enrollment would plummet.

We get it; you want socialism. Hard pass.

And this is why Republicans are having a really difficult time making inroads with Millennials and Gen Z. Higher ed reform, minimum wage increases, and housing reform are now "socialism" to braindead GOPers.

The thing is. We've had close to 40 years of unfettered free market capitalism and it's been a pretty raw deal for a lot of Americans, especially the next generation. You have massive inequality, housing/healthcare/education unaffordability, lack of opportunity without advanced education, gun violence, and climate change. I mean, if unfettered free market capitalism is so good, then why does it feel so crappy for them? Socialism (you know, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, just about everything in the GI Bills and the military gets, plus universal healthcare and affordable education) starts to look pretty good. And taxing the Elon Musks of the world looks even better to do it.

x10000

Just put some dang guardrails on capitalism. It worked in the 1950s, though of course not everyone was allowed to participate equally then. But it’s obviously a raw deal for many and not because they don’t want to work or whatever is the canned right wing phrase of the day.

It's hard to believe that a generation with no work experience, education or life experience can save anything. They don't have enough wherewithal to save anything.

I used to vote dem straight ticket and have yet to vote R. But as I age, I will likely try to find some R candidates who align with my views. This about-face has been the same for many of my friends and family who up until now have also been straight blue.

We'll see how this November turns out.

I've worked in higher ed admin for 20 hears and your post demonstrates the basic lack of understanding Americans have of the economics of higher education. Most state university employees are paodsignificantly below the for profit market rate for their skills, and this is specifically to keep costs as low as possible. Many states ARE engaging in vocational training but there are not enough high paying skilled labor jobs. Most HS grads will still need a degree.

Those rightward shifts among Millennials are tiny. The question is whether those rightward shifts will overwhelm the effects of Gen Zers reaching voting age. I strongly, strongly doubt that.

Yes, they will, because there are a lot more of them.

There are more Millennials, yes, but... that doesn't matter. What matters is whether the number of Millennials switching to Republicans is greater the number of Democratic Gen Zers reaching voting age. That's what I am doubting.

I wish someone would run on a platform to force administrative cuts and tuition reductions at colleges in exchange for continuing to receive Federal research funding/access to student loans for their schools.

Good luck with that. A university is a complex service business you can't run without competent administrators and staff.

This Gen Xer turns bluer every year. Not everyone gets conservative as they get older.

Go Gen Z!
What kind of blue? True liberal blue or woke and insane blue? There's a huge difference.

Oh, ffs

I consider myself woke because as I have gotten older, I learn more and more about the world and history that was whitewashed.

But you do you?
Do you think males with a mental disorder should play girls sports and whiteness is a system of oppression? If so, that's woke and insane. If not you're probably a normal liberal.

Wow dude. Your RWNJ bubble helmet is on too tight. Maybe loosen it up and get a little oxygen to your brain.

I'm a Gen X'er with a Gen Z kid. I spent at least 2 decades as a registered Republican, now I am pretty liberal and think the GOP is tainted and vile.

My Gen Z kid is more conservative than I am, but is a student of politics (in fact a poly sci major) yet he also sees just how toxic and dysfunctional the GOP is, and aligns more to European politics.

2023 CEO salary has increased 1209% since 1978 compared to 2023 typical worker salary increase of 15.3% since 1978. You all ok with this?

So what were Clinton x2 and Obama x2 doing about it?

Oh yeah, getting BJs from interns and bombing gist herders and wedding parties with drones.

College tuition inflated because Democrats told us all we needed to go to college. Their brilliant solution was to basically offer unlimited amounts of student loans to everyone AND also have the US taxpayer backstop loans that go into default. Gee, when you remove all risk from lending markets and open credit taps with infinite money, what do you think happens?

Just another brilliant plan by democrats paying the road to hell with their good intentions.

Nice straw man. The GOP controlled the legislative branch for most of both of their presidencies. Want to see how much Democrats can do when they have unified government? Not even a filibuster proof majority? Look at the first year or so of Obama and Biden’s administrations to see how much can get done. Now consider if they didn’t have the GOP blocking them. But you knew that. Of course, I’d love to see how the GOP is helping Gen Z. Other than making abortion illegal, thoughts and prayers on gun control, denying climate change and trying to raise the voting age, and pushing more corporate and billionaire tax cuts that is.

Newsflash. Young people are always liberal. Wait until they have kids, get real jobs, pay taxes, and have wealth. You think 18 year olds with Wendy's jobs and attending college have a clue how the world works. Lol, have you been to a college recently? They're clueless children. My wife just left her job at a university. The stupidity of college kids was astounding. So many were incapable of doing something as simple as opening up a bank account and filling out the paperwork to receive direct deposit in order to get paid from their on campus job. No wonder why a cohort that inept at the basics of life is easily duped by clownshows like AOC.
