r/washingtondc on Reddit has banned crime discussion

Anonymous
It sounds like the problem is reddit doesn't have the mod resources to make sure that crime posts are accurate. Because SOMEONEs for some strange reason are trying to hype up crime.

Sure crime exists and it gets worse, and it gets better, but exaggerating and outright lying don't help your case.

Wait - “BS claims about rising crime” ???

- is the crime rate in DC going up, or not? and,

- does it matter if an increasing number of innocent city residents are being victimized by crime? Or, does that not matter?

Why or why not?

Genuinely curious about your opinion here, PP.

Stop with the simplistic thinking. Both can be true - 1. That rising crime is a serious concern in DC specifically but also 2. Disinformation campaigns are real and specifically targeted to rile up conservatives (i.e. bots posting BS things to amplify fear of crime to rile people up in general, specifically leaning toward amplifying conservative talking points).

Nice try at deflection.
You progressives own the DC crime problem like disgusting rats.

Not deflecting at all - it's the most likely reason why they banned it.

TBH, r/washingtondc was getting to be kinda unusable given that people were creating new topics for every individual crime that happens in the city. The quality of discussion has plunged and sense of community eroded as the Reddit kept getting brigaded by accounts posting non-stop crime content.

Exactly.

#2 is obvious by the relentless and extreme HYSTERIA

OP is mad because he got caught lying.

So far they allowed a post about Metro’s new fare gates reducing fare evasion, but censored a discussion about a well-liked shop having its windows smashed.

So we can discuss crime going down but when it occurs to a local business owner or a neighbor we can’t say a word.

Pretty wild move, I predict the press will pick this story up.

Snort. No, it won’t. How some social media site self-regulates or moderates isn’t newsworthy. There’s no injustice here or anything.

That's discusting and highly concerning!!! What was their reasoning? Did they provide one?

Do what NOVA did create a new sub https://www.reddit.com/r/NovaCrime/

That's just crime reports and discussions. People should be abandoning that sub if they have a blanket ban on crime. That's living in FAKE land.

Or only allow crime posts that are linked to articles by major media, so only verified info. That may help with the fake post bot issue.

I checked the subreddit every day and honestly never saw this. There were crime posts but for actual crimes, and maybe 1/day? The bad comments got downvoted so I didn’t see them. And I also didn’t bother to read comments on the crime posts.

I truly believe they are banning crime posts for political reasons - because they think discussing crime (even actual crimes) is inherently racist.

Did you actually read this thread before posting here?

I’d like to know more about which crime reports “don’t hold up to scrutiny.” Trolling isn’t good, but there’s enough actual crime that it’s not like all accounts of crime are inherently suspect.
