The r/washingtondc community on Reddit is pretty popular (over 300,000 subscribers), and the moderators just decided on a blanket ban of any discussion about crime in DC.
So far they allowed a post about Metro’s new fare gates reducing fare evasion, but censored a discussion about a well-liked shop having its windows smashed. So we can discuss crime going down but when it occurs to a local business owner or a neighbor we can’t say a word. Pretty wild move, I predict the press will pick this story up. |
Depressing. |
People are deserting that sub for this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/washdc/ |
It's crazy. Redditors are flocking to r/washdc instead. |
Not surprising. During Covid you couldn’t discuss or challenge any Covid prevention measures or really question anything. Clue #1 something was off…. |
Of course. If we don't talk about it, then it obviously doesn't exist. |
Not surprising. Reddit was interesting some years ago. It's pretty hopeless these days. Twitter too.
The internet was a better place a decade or two ago. Now excuse me while I tell some kids to get off my lawn |
If you want to talk about crime all day long, just head to Next Door and get your fill. |
The mods there -- at least half of whom do not live in DC proper, and a few don't live in the area at all -- are sure flexing their mediocre white privilege, aren't they? Crime doesn't happen to them in their safe neighborhoods, so it must not happen at all and we can't talk about it. |
You slyly and casually bring this up as if COVID safety measures and crime are similar issues, one benefits life, the other does not. |
Reddit mods have a god complex. What’s new? |
A sign of things to come. By 2035 the Democrats will ban any mention of urban crime in public discourse. |
I think you must mean 2025. |
