That subreddit is now officially just as bad as the Popville comment section, full of mediocre white people who have lived here for two years but think they're DC experts. They're the kind of cretins who insist that Georgetown doesn't have a Metro system because the neighbors protested.

Crime posts? Banned, unless the victim is a white cyclist. Those posts are allowed.

Protest posts? Apparently banned.

36 repetitive posts about where to find the best burger/bbq/wings/breakfast in DC? Sure, the more the merrier.

Some redditor's crappy photo of a cherry tree? Yes, please.

This is 100% accurate. I'm a 52 yo DC native (born at Georgetown), raised in the Palisades, but settled in Old Town after college and grad school out west. I was banned after getting into it with one of the mods (who was from f++king Ohio) about how he was more DC than I was because he lived in Navy Yard. I'm half embarrassed I even engaged with the moron, but that is who they are.

I've had similar happen. Apparently being born at Columbia Women's and growing up in DC is negated by the fact that I now (horrors!) live in McLean. So the yahoo who moved here post college and has lived in DC for a hot minute is the real Washingtonian. Got it.

To be fair, those living in and paying taxes to DC have a vested interest in the city. The opinions of those who left for the suburbs 30 years ago simply aren’t as relevant to current DC residents.

Nah, Many of us in NOVA spend 1/3 of our lives in DC working. We use metro, occupy office space, buy food and groceries, etc. Our opinions matter way more than some dbag from Butt Crack, Ohio, who moved here 4 months ago.

I disagree. You may have something to contribute to the discussion but the person who actually lives and pays taxes here has more of a stake in the matter.

Unless they own property in the city, their tax contribution is identical to mine.

Disagree. Transplants don’t count and if you aren’t originally from DC you are just a loser midwesterner who needs to go back.

The problem with transplants is that they've never left Navy Yard yet think they understand how the region fits together. They also bring all their social issue baggage from wherever they come from which doesn't necessarily apply to the DMV.

It’s because the statistics do not support the claim of high crime. It is also a dog whistle for racists (see above).
