They were probably being trolled by RWNJs. They’re like cockroaches.

at the risk of prosecution?

It’s ridiculous. Sweeping it under the rug isnt working. Banning people from discussing it will backfire. Ugh. Look at those clowns in Wisconsin (GOP debate tonight). Do we want to hand the keys to them? If not, get our heads out of our asses, speak clearly and confront the issue, use data— dont hide it, distort it, discount it.

Hone in on the best method to deal with it — curfews? Roadblocks? Actually prosecuting violent crime? Contracting with an out of state crime lab for as long as needed? Paying people to turn in car jackers and even porch pirates and people with loud engines/atvs. (They are finally trying the latter to reduce crime in Chinatown. The US Attorney for DC is to blame for a lot.)

Not on redit, but maybe they've been inundated with bots making BS claims about rising crime? It's happening all over nextdoor too

Yes, that is a serious issue. Doing so is a great way to further atomize American society and to further the reduction in social trust.

Given the DCPS school year starts Monday, we need truancy patrols. Get kids in school where they should be and hold parents accountable when kids are not in school.

True. These types coordinate their actions on Discord to troll.

Nice try at deflection.
You progressives own the DC crime problem like disgusting rats.

Crime doesn't happen to them in their safe neighborhoods, so it must not happen at all and we can't talk about it.

Interesting info re: the mods. Any way to get DC based folks in the role?

1) Crime is a significant issue in DC
2) Disinformation/conspiracy theory troll bots are a significant issue most particularly influencing conservatives

Nice try. Reddit is owned by Advance Publications, which was run by SI newhouse who died recently, and who was a Trump supporter.

Can't tell for sure if the Republican Dan Newhouse is part of his family, or not.

Here is what Reddit says about why they did this:

...There were times where we felt that the sub was doing okay. But, over the past several months, we've seen a surge in content that has required hours of cleanup (comment deletions, bans, reddit reports). We've also seen self-posted reports that don't hold up to scrutiny when local journalists have followed up

I knew it! There were so many of those posts that made no sense. Why didn't they make a police report instead of posting a "Dear Playboy" story on reddit?

NBC4 and WUSA9 reporters stay in the DC subreddit.

Wait - “BS claims about rising crime” ???

- is the crime rate in DC going up, or not? and,

- does it matter if an increasing number of innocent city residents are being victimized by crime? Or, does that not matter?

Why or why not?

Genuinely curious about your opinion here, PP.
