That’s partly why tech is so ageist. Much of the work doesn’t really benefit from years of experience, and there aren’t clients who want that old man at the helm (like law, medicine, banking) so any butt in seat will do. |

It’s hard to be unemployed for an extended time and looking if you are looking for a more experienced role in sales because the perception is that the best salespeople are the ones companies keep even during bad times and they let the low performers go.
DH should try to find something even if it is temporary or a lower level than he is used to. |
Interesting. We are pretty sure he was laid off because his manager had a friend they wanted to promote to his position — he made all his numbers early every year, but his manager didn’t like his style in some way and wanted her buddy instead. Anyway to convey that he is too performer? He had the best numbers in is team. |

It’s October basically. Another month.
DH is getting demoralized after calling in every network he could. He is desperate to find his next play in tech sales, but nothing is coming through. We may have to sell our house if no job by January. Move back in with my parents which I know will be really really hard in their small house with all 4 of us. |
It’s still not great for tech sales - my acquaintance was laid off by two different companies this year. Do you work - can you try to get a higher paying job? Is he trying to get a job not in tech sales - sales in energy, manufacturing, pharmacy, etc. If you’re emergency fund is running out, you need to turn to any roles that pay more than unemployment. |
He needs to take any job he can get. Where is your savings? |
I was staying home but have a part time job with an old employer. It’s hard because he spends all day applying, prepping mock sales, readying for interviews he can’t watch kids. |
What else can sales guys do? Before tech sales he was a bartender, studied journalism in college. |
| Glad to hear about tech sales layoffs. Bunch of useless white jocks making $$$$ off the backs of developers who make much less. |
Enterprise tech companies were the worst offenders in hiring engineers they didn't need. They wanted to horde the good talent and keep them away from their competitors, which was all well and fine while $ was cheap. |
It sounds like this is the problem. He lacks the skill and experience. He can go back to bartending. Anything is better than nothing. |
He’s been in tech sales 8 years, can turn back now. He’s way too old to bartend. What about gov contracting? I just want something stable; he’s changed jobs every year and now this layoff, the money was great but clearly not at FU money so kind of a roller coaster. |
Don’t worry it’s just fewer white guys making even more money. That’s how business works. |
| He should apply for a bdr position. Databricks is hiring, they pay peanuts for these roles, but he can get a promotion to an ae in a year |
Really? His last OTE was $400k. That job is$85k. Isn’t that career suicide |
