Burning Tree is where Whitman itself is located. Why would they move it to WJ?

Whitman is not located in Burning Tree.

The area right around Whitman is split. Half the kids go to burning tree and half to Bradley hills. They all go to Pyle.

Yes it is:

Why aren't they putting Churchill in the mix? Several Whitman kids are in Potomac.

Whitman is located within the boundaries of Burning Tree ES. But the part of Bethesda that Whitman is located in is not Burning Tree.

I think Churchill will be in the mix for the Crown study.

A boundary study that includes Whitman, WJ, B-CC, Northwood, Einstein, Blair, Kennedy, and Wheaton isn't big enough for you?

Kids who live across the street from Whitman go to Burning Tree. That would be the least likely to move to WJ.

The Burning Tree boundary is quite large, and one part of it is quite close to WJ -- up Fernwood past the Greentree intersection. I think that may get rezoned, but not the entire Burning Tree zone.

Pyle is currently the most overcrowded middle school in MCPS, so while Whitman may have the space, especially after the renovation, the feeder school does not.

Pyle had an addition also, and is now 282 students below its capacity.

Plus, it is possible to change high school boundaries without changing middle school boundaries.

It seems like the BOE is painted into a corner with this Middle School/High School only limit. If all they can do is move whole ESes to new MSes, it is hard to make subtle numerical changes.

Yeah, maybe a portion of Westland could feed to Whitman.

I don’t see any way Whitman becomes more diverse without the kids who would add diversity taking long bus rides to get there.

And/or maybe the portion of Pyle right around Westland could feed to Westland.

When do people expect this to take effect? When would they announce the change?

The new boundaries should be finalized in March 2025, to begin taking effect in the fall of 2026.
