Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| I know no one knows for sure. But do you all think Whitman will be impacted by the new boundary study for Woodward? Since the renovation they’re under capacity. And does this mean pyle will be too, since Pyle is Whitman for all intents and purposes (doesn’t merge with another middle school). What areas would be most likely to be moved? |
| I think most likely are westward and northward shifts from BCC to Whitman, and from Whitman to WJ. And there could also be from Westland to Pyle, and Pyle to NB, but not necessarily. |
| And they're said that the units they would use for the boundary options are the existing elementary school boundaries. So, for example, they might have an option the reassign all of Westbrook to Whitman, but probably keeps them at Westland, due to proximity. |
Sorry for the typos |
| Is it possible that some current Whitman students could get reassigned to Woodward? |
Yes. If Whitman is part of the boundary study, then Whitman will be affected. |
Yes. |
Being part of the boundary study doesn't necessarily mean a school will be affected--it just means that there can be options developed which include that school. No one knows yet how many rounds of options there will be or which schools will be affected. |
It’s possible, yes. But not certain. I would guess area near suburban hospital/ old Georgetown rd is most at risk of getting rezoned. |
That would be Bradley Hills ES, but much of the southern part of Bradley Hills' zone is walkable to Whitman. |
Bradley Hills ES west of Bradley Boulevard (mostly) is in the walk zone for Whitman, but there's no reason students in the other parts of the Bradley Hills ES area couldn't be reassigned to WJ or Woodward. Or BCC, which many would likely be in the walk zone for. |
Have you been part of a boundary study? When the school is in the boundary study, the school is affected, whether or not the ultimate decision changes anything for that school. |
I guess that depends on your definition of "affected." |
They said at a recent BOE meeting that they would use the current elementary school boundaries as the building blocks for the new MS/HS boundary options. |
If they're already ruling out split articulations for ESes, that's going to eliminate a lot of options right off the bat. |
