It’s possible, yes. But not certain. I would guess area near suburban hospital/ old Georgetown rd is most at risk of getting rezoned.

That would be Bradley Hills ES, but much of the southern part of Bradley Hills' zone is walkable to Whitman.

Bradley Hills ES west of Bradley Boulevard (mostly) is in the walk zone for Whitman, but there's no reason students in the other parts of the Bradley Hills ES area couldn't be reassigned to WJ or Woodward. Or BCC, which many would likely be in the walk zone for.

They said at a recent BOE meeting that they would use the current elementary school boundaries as the building blocks for the new MS/HS boundary options.

If they're already ruling out split articulations for ESes, that's going to eliminate a lot of options right off the bat.

True. My prediction is that round one of options will avoid ES split articulations, but that none of those options will be considered satisfactory, so they will go to round two, which will have split articulations all over the place.

But can’t they reassign some kids at an elementary to another elementary, so that there is no split articulation? For instance, some Bradley ES kids would get reassigned to an elementary school that feeds to WJ. So Bradley hills still feeds to pyle Whitman, but kids who now attend Bradley Hills would instead attend a WJ feeder elementary.

But why would they move currently assigned Whitman kids to Walter Johnson? Walter Johnson is part of the overcrowding problem and Whitman is under capacity.

They won't be doing that as part of the Woodward study because the scope of the study is only middle and high school boundary changes.

The kids right by suburban hospital can walk to Bradley hills. Why would they put them on a bus to wyngate when they’re in a walking zone to another elementary?

One possibility is that so many WJ kids get rezoned to Woodward that they need to send some from Whitman to WJ, and possibly also BCC to Whitman, etc.

They won't. No one's elementary school assignment will be changing as part of this study.

Because Equity. Overcrowding isn’t the problem the BOE is trying to solve for based on all of the public statements I’ve heard from them about how much of an opportunity this is to make transformational change in access, equity and diversity.

I think Burning Tree may be more likely to move than Bradley Hills. It’s smaller school and a lot of it is not that far from WJ.

Yes, they can - but only if they expand the scope of the boundary study to look at elementary-school assignments too. Which I think is very, very, very unlikely.

A foolish statement, given that the reason for the boundary study is that MCPS IS BUILDING A WHOLE NEW HIGH SCHOOL.

Burning Tree is where Whitman itself is located. Why would they move it to WJ?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean they can't do it.

True the real problem here is utilization and if they don't solve it well, they'll need to build more schools.

Whitman is not located in Burning Tree.
