If you are moderate Dem, would you consider an establishment Republican in 2024? Why/why not

Anonymous
No way. I do believe there are a few reasonable Republicans still around (Romney, Hogan), but even if one of them somehow miraculously got elected, they would not have enough support to get anything done unless they sucked up to the right-wing crazies. I think Biden is too old to run again, but I'll take him over anyone the Republicans put forward.

I saw him at some event and it reminded me of the toady from Demolition Man.

If you want to see the problem with electing “moderate” Republicans look at Stefanik. Campaigned as a moderate, governs as a fascist.

No. I am a woman and have a daughter. I can’t stand Rashida Tlalib or Ilhan Omar and think AOC is a faux feminist and a narcissist. But voting for an “establishment” Republican is supporting a platform that is femicide-forward. As someone said, Elise Stefanik, George effing Santos, these are Republicans representing moderate swing districts. Hard hard pass.

I would vote for someone like a Larry Hogan or a Mitt Romney, but otherwise the Republicans candidates aren’t very appealing.

However, for something like a school board I’m much more likely to vote for a conservative.

So, book burning is ok, then?

Not a fan of it, but there are reasonable conservatives at the school board level, especially in Maryland. Not everyone wants to burn books.

Remove books porn/groomer books from school libraries is not book burning.

In 2024 I absolutely would NOT vote for a Republican even one that is somewhat sensible if such a person were to appear. Because the party is way too right-wing, crazy, and dishonest. I cannot get over them standing behind Trump about the election being stolen. And I cannot forget the 100+ Congresspeople who voted to overturn Pennsylvania's election results. WTF???

While I don't agree with the far left wing of the Democratic party on several issues, very few of them rile me up enough to get upset. And while I might not agree with their stance, I do think they are coming at it from a genuine concern even if I don't agree with them.

Until this batch of Republicans is completely out of office, I cannot see me voting for a Republican anytime soon.

I feel similarly. Dismayed at where the far left of the Democratic Party is heading but horrified by pretty much all republicans over the past 6+ years.

I’d consider Abe Lincoln.

First of all, I wouldn't vote for any Republican who was part of the Trump administration. Do I need to explain why?

Second, I wouldn't vote for any of the current Republican's -- they have no platform, they are only interested in sowing dissent and destroying the country.

Third, not voting for a Republican for President because Supreme Court

What policies is the "Far Left" proposing that are anywhere close to advocating overturning elections and using violence to win and maintain power? I'm talking about elected officials.

Sure, there are extreme local crazies that have down bad policy (SF school board comes to mind) but most of the extreme is from ACTIVISTS who hold no power. I'm so tired of people lumping in activists with elected officials. "The Squad" is not MAGA. They are advocating for policy that exists in a democracy. MAGA is advocating to destroy the democratic system itself.

+100

Outside of maybe the Montgomery County Council, progressive activists are NOT driving policy. It actually makes me appreciate their input, because I know that AOC's policy is never going to come about, but it adds some balance against the far right. It is basically impossible for any left policy to be enacted at the federal level.

At the county level... eek. But not at the federal level.

- David Blair supporter and AOC appreciator.

The next GOP POTUS candidate will be anti-abortion, dog whistling to Dixie, supports January 6 coup attempt, etc.

When will the Republicans ever be normal again?

This. Also still mad about Roe.
