If you are moderate Dem, would you consider an establishment Republican in 2024? Why/why not

Do you consider Ron Desantis an establishment Republican and would you consider voting for him?

If yes, what issues do you think Democrats are more extreme on than Nikki Haley/Ron Desantis/Kristi Noem/Mike Pence? Please be SPECIFIC. For example, rather than saying "government spending," please specify spending on WHAT exactly, and what would be your alternative?

I'm interested in your perspective and specifics to really hear from actual moderate Democrats who feel that not only has the Democratic Party gone too far left, but that the mainstream GOP is closer to the center... and that people who say this aren't actually gaslighting and have always actually been Republicans.

I'm a normie center-left Dem, and there are definitely some things that progressives do and say that are annoying, but I a) don't see the crazy progressive ideas every being legislated and b) don't think they're as harmful as right wing policies, just annoying. Things like "woke" pandering and using words like LatinX, and culture war stuff. I think the right obsesses more about that anyways. And I don't think full student loan forgiveness is a good idea but nobody with any power is proposing that either. But I'm willing to hear from others on their perspective as to how the progressive left things that I consider mildly annoying are actually more harmful than what most Republicans are proposing.

Nope not a chance. While I agree with you on probably 50% of the progressive stuff a Republican is out of the question for me on principle. The fact that the Republican party hasn't disavowed it's fringe element means I can't vote for them. I used to see them as just tax avoiding lovers of big business (my friend group). Now I see Republicans on a spectrum that includes Richard Spencer and the Jan 6th rioters. Sure some will argue the summer of 2020 riots were just as bad but I think we all know where the real threat comes from.

After this I need 100 years and a complete rebranding of the party.

You and me both.

I voted in the Republican primary in 2016 - for John Kasich. That party doesn't exist today.

You consider a Trump administration official a moderate? If Hogan ran, I’d vote for him. None of the politicians that you listed are moderate

A sane Republican can’t win the nomination, but even if it happened it would still be a disaster. They wouldn’t be able to deliver enough Republican votes to pass anything reasonable but also wouldn’t go all in to get Democratic votes. They would still appoint partisan Republican hacks to mismanage and loot the government. They would still appoint Federalist Society judges to destroy the Constitution. We can’t have another Republican President for at least the next 20 years.

Very few of these exist. And in order to maintain support, he or she would be beholden to the crazies (much like McCarthy, who is not a moderate but is the far right MAGA's bi--h).

So. No.

I pleaded with my Republican friends to support Kasich in hopes we could have two respectable candidates. I see the very fact that the Republican party had Kasich as an option and went the other way as symptomatic of the rot at the core of the party.

So yeah 100 years at a minimum.

There are actually points of agreement between right and left...
It's usually the wrong conclusions where we diverge.

Nikki Haley is not a moderate republican.

Why do the Dems always have to comrpomise but the right never does?

There are more registered dems in this country, it's time to get them all to vote and exert political power rather than compromising all the time.

How about, will rational GOP comrpomise and support a centrist like Biden? He isn't AOC or Bernie. Why or why not?

No never. I am an independent been voting since Reagan and Trump’s win was the first time the person I voted for did not win.

The Republican Party is a radical anti constitutional party. Republicans are a threat to this country and the American way of life. It’s a party of white nationals and grifters. They do not believe in the will of the people, rule of law, democracy, etc.

Why would a moderate Dem have a problem with Biden?
Anonymous
I would vote for Romney. He puts up policies that can be compromised around. He does not present well, but he seems reasonable. By not presenting well I mean he sometimes seems to be playing as a human, but awkwardness can be overlooked. DeSantis is a no go. I do not want Florida policies spread nationwide and I don't want to see him, which I know is shallow. Haley is also a no go. She is not moderate. I don't want Biden to run again, but if the republican is not reasonable, I will vote for Biden.
