If you are moderate Dem, would you consider an establishment Republican in 2024? Why/why not

Anonymous
If you are a moderate Democrat or centrist independent, and voted for Biden, Hillary, and/or Obama:

Would you consider an establishment Republican, like Nikki Haley, in 2024? If so, why?
Do you consider Ron Desantis an establishment Republican and would you consider voting for him?

If yes, what issues do you think Democrats are more extreme on than Nikki Haley/Ron Desantis/Kristi Noem/Mike Pence? Please be SPECIFIC. For example, rather than saying "government spending," please specify spending on WHAT exactly, and what would be your alternative?

I'm interested in your perspective and specifics to really hear from actual moderate Democrats who feel that not only has the Democratic Party gone too far left, but that the mainstream GOP is closer to the center... and that people who say this aren't actually gaslighting and have always actually been Republicans.

I'm a normie center-left Dem, and there are definitely some things that progressives do and say that are annoying, but I a) don't see the crazy progressive ideas every being legislated and b) don't think they're as harmful as right wing policies, just annoying. Things like "woke" pandering and using words like LatinX, and culture war stuff. I think the right obsesses more about that anyways. And I don't think full student loan forgiveness is a good idea but nobody with any power is proposing that either. But I'm willing to hear from others on their perspective as to how the progressive left things that I consider mildly annoying are actually more harmful than what most Republicans are proposing.

What is a “moderate” Dem?
Anonymous
Sure, but a moderate - in the mold of Mitt Romney, Bob Dole, or John McCain -will never win the nomination.

The next GOP POTUS candidate will be anti-abortion, dog whistling to Dixie, supports January 6 coup attempt, etc.

When will the Republicans ever be normal again?
Anonymous
Nope. Republicans have shown they have no interest in a functional government. None. No votes for republicans until they fix the mess they made on SCOTUS and get back to negotiating in good faith on matters of the budget.

Nope. For one thing, Nikki Haley is not much better than Trump. I don’t remember her actively opposing Trump or calling him out for misdeeds.

Beyond that, most of the Republicans in congress are election deniers. I won’t be voting Republican.

I am a former independent turned Dem. One of those Yankee Independents. I am not a Bernie Sanders supporter and find the far left ideas to be impractical and not sustainable.

That said, I cannot think of a single republican that I would vote for President. There is not a single viable R who has not taken a bite of the Trump apple. Haley is not a moderate and I would never vote for her because she served under Trump. Anybody who willingly worked for him is a hard no. They slept with the devil and no amount of hindsight or ghost writing will change that fact. DeSantis is not establishment and I would never vote for him.

For many years, I cast my vote for both R and D candidates. Since Trump, it’s been strictly D. As a Marylander, I would not even vote Hogan for President. The Republican Party is too Christian, too gun, too dismissive of the underserved, and frankly too beholden to Trump and Mega donors with ultra conservative platforms. Any R who gets elected will have to make some serious payoffs to the right wing conservative base. Amd I’m not willing to vote for that inepatback.

So, I am with you. I find some very progressive ideas to be unrealistic but not harmful to the greater community.

I thought DeSantis was ok but after recent actions in Florida, he seems pretty fascist.

No, unless federal laws protecting abortion laws are passed. Until then I’m a one issue voter. I was able to vote for Republicans in the past because their worst impulses were checked by the court and some of their better impulses benefited me, but now as a parent of a daughter my hands are tied.

Nope not a chance. While I agree with you on probably 50% of the progressive stuff a Republican is out of the question for me on principle. The fact that the Republican party hasn't disavowed it's fringe element means I can't vote for them. I used to see them as just tax avoiding lovers of big business (my friend group). Now I see Republicans on a spectrum that includes Richard Spencer and the Jan 6th rioters. Sure some will argue the summer of 2020 riots were just as bad but I think we all know where the real threat comes from.

After this I need 100 years and a complete rebranding of the party.

Lifelong Democrat here. My first presidential election I voted for Dukakis. I voted for McCain over Obama because I thought Obama was too inexperienced. When I lived in NY I voted for the republican over Spitzer because I thought Spitzer was a sleazeball. Turned out I was right.

I’d vote for Mitt Romney if he ran. I would consider DeSantis if he ran. I know this post won’t be liked, but I think many democrats have lost the plot and support absurd policies that allow men in women’s spaces, sports and prisons. It’s such a deviation from reality and truth that I have a hard time voting for any politician who supports it. You asked.

Republicans who have either embraced Trump or who try to act more stupidly than Trump: never. Republicans who advocate treating my daughter with disrespect over abortion or gay rights or something: never.

I consider myself a moderate Dem. I absolutely considered voting for McCain until he got Sarah Palin as a running mate. Romney is someone I also considered back in 2012.

In 2024 I absolutely would NOT vote for a Republican even one that is somewhat sensible if such a person were to appear. Because the party is way too right-wing, crazy, and dishonest. I cannot get over them standing behind Trump about the election being stolen. And I cannot forget the 100+ Congresspeople who voted to overturn Pennsylvania's election results. WTF???

While I don't agree with the far left wing of the Democratic party on several issues, very few of them rile me up enough to get upset. And while I might not agree with their stance, I do think they are coming at it from a genuine concern even if I don't agree with them.

Until this batch of Republicans is completely out of office, I cannot see me voting for a Republican anytime soon.

Zero chance. Republicans are pro-treason, anti-choice, pro-Putin, anti-democracy freaks, nazis and ammosexuals.

Plus you've got Matt Schlapp running around schlapping innocent young men and asking them to come back to his hotel room for full Greco-Roman schlapping . Not a good look!

Sure. I’d vote for Eisenhower.
