Do you have a snack in the afternoon?

Eat a larger lunch and smaller dinner.

I disagree. I eat lunch around noon and dinner at 6. I’m legit hungry around 4. Even when I eat a larger lunch/add snack calories to lunch. I see nothing wrong with a healthy high protein snack.

I do agree that lots of people snack out of boredom or habit and agree those struggling to lose or maintain their weight should avoid that, but if you’re legit hungry eat. Now if all you want to snack on is candy and wouldn’t eat an apple then you’re probably not hungry.

Yes, a snack every afternoon at around 3 pm. Lunch is usually around 12:30. Snack is an apple and dry shredded wheat or another fruit.

I have a coffee or a double espresso before leaving work, but not always.

I'm not a squirrel. I don't generally snack. Cup of coffee at 530am. Breakfast at 730am. Lunch at 1200pm. Dinner at 6pm. One cup if coffee (no sugar) mid afternoon. I may eat popcorn or chips once a week after dinner for Friday or Sat movie night. Sun afternoon I'll have a biscotti or simular treat with afternoon cup of coffee. So out if 7 days, I have 2 snacks.

I eat cake for breakfast sometimes with ice cream. Brownies this morning. Cookies when I make them. Pie is crazy good in the morning.
Afternoon is a no no. No night snacking either. I learned over the years to quit eating the good stuff at night or I'll have a nasty painful gluten episode.
I make my own food rules.
No coffee, tea or caffeine to drink. Gave that up years ago.
And no, I am not fat. I'm just old. Living the life I want to live.
I only get sick from contaminated healthy food. That's shitty.

You sound like my grandmother (who was very thin her whole life, even though no one else in the family was). She would indulge at breakfast and lunch, then barely eat the rest of the day.

It is some form of intermittent fasting before it was a thing.
A lot of times we'd see thin people eating a lot, not realizing that they probably spent rest of their day not eating at all. By the time they go to sleep and wake up those calories are long burned.

if i am hungry i do. usually something like ezekiel toast or wasa crackers with peanut butter, or whatever leftovers we have on toast. i’m at a healthy weight, esp for my body type, bmi around 22.

people who don’t, what do you do if you are hungry? just suffer until dinner? why? why not just eat less later at dinner (you naturally will if you have a snack)?

Because I personally prefer hot (cooked) food. I'd rather suffer for another hour or so; or have some tea or coffee and be fully hungry for a good, "real" meal.

Honestly I skip breakfast so I can eat a filling lunch, then that gets me to dinner without a snack At first it was hard not eating in the morning, but now I'm used to it. That being said, if I need a snack, I eat it, and its usually a piece of cheese. I find an apple just makes me hungrier later. I just try to figure out if I'm really hungry, bored, thirsty or that my overall nutrition is not adequate (too carby, not enough protein and fat). I eat between 11-7 and feel much better, esp with a lighter dinner before bed. Better digestion, better sleep.

Roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed, soybean and rapeseed oil) to prevent separation, salt. You can do better than skippy. Added Sugars, bad oils? Try a peanut butter with just peanuts.

Crazy Richard's is my favorite.

This thread is so depressing. I usually have a PBJ on whole wheat bread around 4 pm to fuel my evening workout, and then have a normal dinner (rice, chicken, veggies) around 7.

Agreed. Lots of tips from people with control issues bordering on eating disorders.

If dinner is an hour away then yeah, Id just wait too, a hot meal is much better. When i have an afternoon snack, dinner is usually a couple of hours away.
