same girl! and i’m barely 5ft! anything under 135 looks sickly on me.

5' and 135lbs is considered overweight.

Everyone carries weight differently. If you saw a 5’ woman who weighed 135 you would not think overweight. You seem judgmental toward other ladies, though! Not a good vibe!

I'm 5' and weigh 117. My sister, same height, 128lb looks overweight. My mother, same height, weighs 135lb - looks overweight. Both my mom and sister know that they are overweight.

It's not being judgemental. Just stating facts.

Weight is a meaningless metric. Shorties with boobs and booties who are otherwise flat-stomached and toned will sound like elephants if you go by weight alone. Most people are shocked, SHOCKED, when I tell them I weigh 145 at 5'1. I look fit and have curves in all the right places.

In other words, leave the scale alone and focus on fitness. Use a measuring tape to gauge progress if you absolutely must objectify your size.

I'm 4'10" and mid 40s. When I started trying to lose weight I kept to a 1200 calorie or less diet but was honestly miserable. I now portion control food and worry less about actual calories w/healthy food. I do cardio 4-6x a week and also walk every day. Feel much happier than when I was keeping a very strict 1200 or less per day diet. Great that I got down to 100 pounds but I was absolutely miserable. Have decided I'd rather have balance with 5-10 pounds more weight but be happy and not feeling like I'm always hungry/starving myself.

135 on an apple shaped person who is 5’ would absolutely look overweight. Like you said, everyone carries weight differently, depends on body type.

I am 5’1” and even as a college athlete I was 130 lbs. I looked thin but muscular. Bodies are weird that way. Different frames/builds etc.

I am currently 30 pounds overweight (combination baby plus COVID weight). It’s really hard to lose weight, I do a 30 minute cardio/HITT workout 6 times a week, 10,000 steps a day, scale doesn’t budge. Like a PP, IF does work for me but I have to be intentional and eat really healthy during my eating period. My DH can just fast but eat whatever he wants and still drop weight.

I am currently losing 2 lbs per week with this method.
Have just been doing it for a month. I am sure it will get harder as I get closer to goal weight.

How many calories a day are you aiming for?

Thanks for this thread!

I’m 5’1” and 135. Lost 30 pounds on WW recently and am working on a few more. Interesting to hear how other short women manage. It’s definitely tough once you get past 40!

I’m 5’ - I had good luck with BrightLine Eating. But that was 900 calories a day and not sustainable.

Im usually 121 and up to 127 I look pretty healthy. 135 is about max for feeling ok about myself.

Im currently over 150 due to months of prednisone, stress and perimenopause. I look awful…. I went from a size 4P to 12P in 6 months.

Hoping for tips to get back to somewhat normal… I’m not sure I can live on 900 calories a day again…

I am 5’ 1” and able to lose about .5-1 lb a week on 1300-1500. But I lift heavy, do a lot of HIIT and some running so I think that helps boost my metabolism a lot. I am very consistent with tracking too. I am maintaining at 112 right now. May cut again for summer, down to 110 or a bit lower. I have a very small frame, but quite a bit of muscle after lifting for the last 8 years or so. Oh, I am 42. But I haven’t noticed a change in my metabolism with age, it’s always pretty much the same.

Some of these are starvation diets and disordered eating.

Some people ignore the fact that people 5’1” and under are way below the average height for women in this country and should adjust their meals and caloric intake to a level healthy for them.

I know I may get ridicule for this but I’m not counting calories. It’s never worked for me, I like variety and make everything myself, I always get overwhelmed by calorie counting. Instead I am eating “clean” and only two meals a day. It’s working so far.

5 foot 0 checking in, at 97 lbs. I'm 50. I walk and or bike 12-15 miles a week total. It's just a couple miles a day. Brisk walking on weekdays and weekend bike ride. I also do pushups but maybe only three times a week.I'm 32 25 32. More rectangular with small hips. Two children many years ago. When I hit 43 I went through a stressful phase, cross country move, elderly parents troubles etc. I was travelling a lot and eating out a lot over a six month period. I gained during this time 20 lbs. The only time I had been 120 was pregnancies. It took me nearly a year to drop 20. I immediately cut out all snacks and just ate three meals. I avoided anything with added sugars. I avoided refined grains and avoided processed food. The weight loss took just under a year and I never gained it back. Now to maintain I still don't snack unless it's weekend m. Dessert is perhaps once a month. I don't drink alcohol or soda. I eat full fat yoghurt cheeses, lots of nuts (raw, not crunchy sugary ones). I eat really cleanly and weight maintenance hasn't been too bad but discipline is important. I only eat out twice a month. Meal prep is important. I don't do low carb. But carbs are always whole grains like barley, oats etc.

I'm the 5 0 97lbs poster. I meant to add I don't count calories either. I'm all about real whole foods. Cal counting is a waste if time. Use that time to meal prep and cook. If it didn't grow from nature don't eat it. If you want a sweet treat, bake it from scratch yourself.

Wow- I hate you all (not really, just envious of those that have it so easy). I'm 5'0 exactly and am sitting at 136-137 at age 45 (3 babies, the last 2 in my late 30s -early 40s). But I don't consider myself overweight. I'm not skinny, I'm not fat. I'm just - average. Most my weight is in my stomach, butt, and hips. My arms and boobs look great, and most people think I'm 10 years younger than I am.

I don't eat horrible, but I also like my chocolate. And have a wine, beer, or cocktail a couple times per week. I don't really have any interest in restricting down to 1200 calories daily or limiting what I eat. Life is short! When I do track, I average between 1500-1800 calories per day.

I have never, ever been skinny, even as a child. As an adult, the skinniest I ever got was 118, and I was majorly depressed, not eating a lot, and working out and running a lot. It wasn't a healthy weight for me, and I'd take a few extra pounds over the constant depression and exhaustion. Now I might go for a 3-mile walk, or lift weights, but nothing consistent. Maybe when the kids are older. Right now I prioritize sleep over working out.

Having 2 of my kids in my late 30s and early 40s was the biggest driver of my weight today. Prior to that, I weighed around 125. Even though I only gained about 25 lbs with each pregnancy, it was way harder to lose the baby weight than it was with my first when I was 25. When I was 25, the baby weight, plus an additional 10, just melted off post pregnancy. After my second I lost all the baby weight except about 7 lbs, so ended up sitting around 132, and then obviously with my last even though I lost 20 lbs post pregnancy, I still ended up settling another 4-5 lbs higher yet, at 135-137. Then I had a parent with a terminal diagnosis, and between that, young kids, and a busy FT job, something had to give a little and I learned to accept my new weight. Now it's just about learning how to play to my strengths with what I wear and how to camouflage the parts I may not love about my body.

It is what it is I suppose. Life is short. I've never beat myself up about my weight over the years, even though if you went by weight alone you might think I'm overweight, and it's never stopped me from achieving goals in my life. I have a great spouse, kids, my dream home, an interesting job, friends, and have been fortunate to have extensively traveled over the years. Being skinny is not a be all end all.

A lot of women blame weight gain on pregnancy from years back. It's fine to be overweight for a year after a baby but anything beyond that is crazy. There is also no reason for women to gain more than 30 lbs. Anymore and you're just eating too much, plain and simple.

You come in here and post that you hate everyone here who doesn’t have to work at it, say you don’t consider yourself overweight, go in that people thing you’re ten years younger than you are, and how you don’t beat yourself up. Why did you even post? You can just hit the back button.

People trying to lose likely do look overweight, or, at least at 5’0 they have a hard time finding pants that fit their waist, etc., don’t feel healthy, and want to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease. At your BMI, someone who carries weight in their stomach should work to lose weight - it’s an actual health issue to have so much fat in your midsection, as likely you have too much visceral fat around your organs.
