You have invented a fantasy. |
| Or you are tone deaf to it. There were things said and written at the time, and it was well known among many who live or lived, in the neighborhood. |
This is not true. Registered dogs can enter whenever the park is open. Only off-leash hours are restricted. |
To clarify - registered dogs can enter at any time, and they have some specific off-leash hours. Non-registered dogs can never enter, even though the park is typically empty. That's why the rules are suspect - dogs are always allowed in. They could just register more dogs. Off leash hours could stay they same. Has anyone here every gotten off the waitlist? We're wondering whether they ever allow locals who live in the apartment buildings. Or if it is as screened as it seems to be. |
I was in Forest Hills, another neighborhood JPDS considered when they got forced out of Rosedale. The number of comments I heard about “it would be one thing if it were a school I would consider for my own kids”. Or “Who cares if they bring jobs like Hebrew teacher” was nauseating. |
You should ask. |
Uh, I doubt that. Name another school that gives over its "front yard" to dog owners who want a place to run their dogs off leash. Who's to say there would even be a "front yard" and not buildings on the majority of the land. |
I don't agree that an ANC election is meaningless, but I am really distressed at how divisive and hardball people are getting over this election. We all have to live together, and dirty politics does not belong in a community election. |

Rosedale Conservancy is a park open to the general public (not just the Cleveland Park neighborhood and not only to members). Known as Cleveland Park’s village green, Rosedale was established 20 years ago to preserve the grounds (it’s on the National Register of Historic Places) and educate about the property’s history. Rosedale also sponsors a variety of activities for children and adults, such as the popular Easter egg hunt, pumpkin carving, astronomy nights, community picnics, and concerts. Nearly all of the activities are free, and Rosedale depends on the generosity of its members (membership is open to all) to support the activities and maintain the grounds.
Rosedale also welcomes members to bring dogs but dogs must be registered, vaccinated and wear tags while on the property. There is an annual fee for dog registration. Dogs with tags are allowed off leash only during certain hours but must be leashed at all other times so that children and others wishing to enjoy the park may do so without encountering off-leash dogs. However, Rosedale is not a dog park and the conservancy tries hard to balance uses while carrying out its mission to preserve the property. The number of dogs is limited to prevent excessive damage to the grounds. Congressional Cemetary, which also allows registered dogs off leash, has a much longer dog waiting list than Rosedale. It’s worth noting that there is a free and completely fenced DC dog park three blocks from Rosedale that does not limit the number of dogs or require registration. Rosedale was DC’s first land conservancy. Tregaron, also in Cleveland Park, was the second. Tregaron is a spectacular site and is also free and open to the public, but does not allow off leash dogs. |
Rosedale is open free to the general public, but not to an unlimited number of their dogs. Dogs are not people. How is that at all like a country club with with a checkered history?! |
It turns out that there is such a free, public dog park on the same street as Rosedale and just a few blocks away. So what’s all the the whining (or barking) about? |
He is the candidate backed by Greater Greater Washington and Cleveland Park Smart Growth. These interest groups are likely the source. |
This historical society and the city preservation board. |
Cuz’ that’s what the old guard does - keep schools out of the neighborhood. Just ask Beauvoir, Eaton, National Cathedral School, NCRC, WIS, St Albans, Sidwell Friends, Maret, Hearst, CP Congregational Church and Adas preschools. All kept out of the neighborhood by those awful NIMBYs! |
No doubt you’ll be missed. |
