Is Rosedale Conservancy run by NIMBYs?

We recently moved to the CP area and became dues-paying members of Rosedale. However, they said that it's pretty much hopeless for us to get off of the dog waiting list (even though there's no one using the park at all during the day). And after watching the ANC forum last night, I'm aware that a NIMBY ANC candidate is a director of the Conservancy.

Is Rosedale run by NIMBYs? Or otherwise just an exclusive org for elite hobnobbing? We were excited to use the Park and get involved but haven't found it welcoming.

Yes, it is the old guard of Cleveland Park who created the HOA there to keep out a school.

I'm curious when this started? I used to take my dog there all the time and had no idea that there was a waiting list.

The fact that Rosedale exists at all is because your neighbors that you derogatorily call NIMBYs all pitched in to purchase the property when it went up for sale instead of allowing it to be developed. It is private property and you are lucky that they let you use it at all, so stop your whining.

I'm not sure but there are signs everywhere that only dogs with membership tags can go in, even if they're on leash. It's weird because when we walk by during the week there's no one there. That's why I started to suspect something was going on, and then the ANC thing provided more details.

OMG, its a conspiracy of NIMBYs! Why don’t you go ask the city for a public park near you to walk your dog? I am sure they will get right on that.

It’s not a public space or dog park. In general, I don’t see an issue limiting the number of dogs who are permitted to use the grounds of a private facility.

That's right, it's not illegal. It's about the type of community they're trying to welcome and whether OP wants to support it. Like...whether to join certain types of country clubs with checkered histories.

It was a private school.

The land is open to the public and paid for by private citizens. Green space for you for free.

There are no people with dogs there during the day because the dog hours are restricted to a few hours in the morning and again in the evening so people who aren’t dog people can enjoy the space without dogs. The grounds are open to everyone at no charge, but if you want to bring a dog, you have to abide by the dog hours and register them. It’s not some conspiracy or NIMBY thing…it’s a neighborhood amenity that is open to all.

Oh, so a group of private citizens paying for the maintenance and upkeep of a large green space in the city that is open to the public is a bad idea? Are you accusing the neighbors of being bigots? Pls, speak plainly.
