Then there’s the fact that she’s a pretty awful human having nothing to do with her political views— she doxxed a rape victim, for example.

And then finally, Europe has more impressive female leaders. No one needs to scrape the bottom of the barrel like this to find people to admire there.

G7 leaders?

Yes? PM of the UK is a woman and Germany was led by a woman for fifteen years. The EU is considered part of the G7 and is also led by a woman. All of these women are much more impressive than the not-yet-elected fascist who might run Italy. What is it about her you think people should be impressed by, compared to the women who have legitimate accomplishments and don’t release video of women being raped?

Yeah Ursula von der leyen seems like she needs more press.

Polished, High powered job and has 7 kids.

Impressive to manage to do both.

Not sure why she isn’t being lauded more

One of the things I admire about her is that she doesn’t seek more press. She does her job well. Occasionally incredibly sexist things happen to her and she doesn’t take it lying down, like when Erdogan tried to snub her, but the many reasons to admire her are not about her being a woman. Unlike the fascist under discussion.

Is she the one who loves Mussolini?

She about to become pm of a g7 country.

Nothing was ever really handed to her. She “leans in”

Interesting that she isn’t being championed as a “girl boss” just because she has different political views

Because she's a feckin Fascist. Like, openly Fascist. Jesus.

That’s for Italy to decide if they want to follow that path or not as long as votes aren’t tampered with during elections.

Is she running a sham election or taking over the country with an army?

I dont support her politics, but i also dont support not letting her air her views in public discourse

Except of course the original question wasn’t “do you think we should let fascists run for election, given that they don’t believe in following democratic norms” — which might be an interesting question— but “why aren’t people calling her role model for women” — which isn’t.

All women have to hold the same views?

Maybe she thinks her views are best for women?

LOL She's a fascist who doesn't think any other views should be allowed.

Will she make the trains run on time?

Yes. Berlusconi was bad but she is next level. It really scares me.

Italian trains are quite good already actually.

They’re so good, they pretty much killed domestic air travel.

Trenitalia freccia and ítalo both work well nationwide

Trenord connectivity in the north is good

Way better than amtrak

She has internalized the patriarchy and is not a woman leader as a result.

She's conservative. Also her time as family minister in Germany would be very controversial among the US left.

Also, same party as merkel.

Merkel had excellent rep and press with us left pre-Russia/Ukraine.

The difference I see is that merkel was a uggo and childless and UVdL isn’t and that makes people uncomfortable in 2022

I mean and Merkel was PM of Europe’s largest economy and UVdL shares top billing with that bald dude whose name I can’t remember.

Her time wouldn’t make the left very uncomfortable because if the left could secure the medical and social/labor protections Germany has, they’d be nearly irrelevant.

Charles michel?

The older I get the more life really is high school.

given than uvdl and merkel share similar politics in general and are from the same generation, Occam’s razor reasoning really comes down to looks and money and “winning at life”.

UVdL truly comes off as being “better than you” compared to merkel due to her lineage, looks, and ability to seem to “do it all” with careeer and family.

It was her job to encourage people to bear children, in addition to overseeing things like kindergeld and maternity policies. The left is busy demonizing things like crisis pregnancy centers, so UvdL would not be pure enough.

It’s funny because the people who run crisis pregnancy centers were caught on tape saying they want to give as little support as physically possible after a baby is born. That’s…look at that 180 degrees from the kindergeld and maternity leave policies in Germany. So it’s almost like you made that whole problem up!
