I mean firstly because she’s not PM of anything yet. Then there’s the fact that she’s a pretty awful human having nothing to do with her political views— she doxxed a rape victim, for example. And then finally, Europe has more impressive female leaders. No one needs to scrape the bottom of the barrel like this to find people to admire there.
G7 leaders?
Yes? PM of the UK is a woman and Germany was led by a woman for fifteen years. The EU is considered part of the G7 and is also led by a woman. All of these women are much more impressive than the not-yet-elected fascist who might run Italy. What is it about her you think people should be impressed by, compared to the women who have legitimate accomplishments and don’t release video of women being raped?
Yeah Ursula von der leyen seems like she needs more press. Polished, High powered job and has 7 kids. Impressive to manage to do both. Not sure why she isn’t being lauded more
She's conservative. Also her time as family minister in Germany would be very controversial among the US left.
Also, same party as merkel. Merkel had excellent rep and press with us left pre-Russia/Ukraine. The difference I see is that merkel was a uggo and childless and UVdL isn’t and that makes people uncomfortable in 2022
I mean and Merkel was PM of Europe’s largest economy and UVdL shares top billing with that bald dude whose name I can’t remember. Her time wouldn’t make the left very uncomfortable because if the left could secure the medical and social/labor protections Germany has, they’d be nearly irrelevant.
It was her job to encourage people to bear children, in addition to overseeing things like kindergeld and maternity policies. The left is busy demonizing things like crisis pregnancy centers, so UvdL would not be pure enough.
It’s funny because the people who run crisis pregnancy centers were caught on tape saying they want to give as little support as physically possible after a baby is born. That’s…look at that 180 degrees from the kindergeld and maternity leave policies in Germany. So it’s almost like you made that whole problem up!
