+1 I'm confused. I thought our goal as a society was to become colorblind. I say this as someone who is one of those shades of brown that everyone overlooks. |
How about you explain to me why in your opinion teaching colorblindness doesn't perpetuate racism? |
Guessing you were already scratched. |
| I’m curious about the ultimate goal here. The conservative CCC parents won’t attend or won’t take it seriously. The other parents probably don’t need the training. Is it a way of signaling to prospective families? A welcome sign for diverse families and a “keep away” sign for trumpers? |
+1. I’m waiting to hear too. |
It’s a short-sighted attempt to “correct thinking” and therefore smacks of Marxism. Have none if you read about Mao and the Culural Revolution ? Of the people who died. The families split up and relocated. It was a horror and it’s taking place right now. |
Do you have cites for what is "taking place right now"? |
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. |
No! That's the best you can do as a response? Yell "Troll!". |
|
For those of you who want others to “see color”… what do you want us to do about it once we “see” it? What assumptions do you want us to make?
I believe that respecting differences are a fundamental lesson of childhood. When others say that they are teaching their children to be color blind, it’s exactly this. You see someone’s color just as you see that they are tall, or overweight, or they have a beautiful smile. |
| These trainings are more about seeing racism than “seeing color”. But you have to see color to see racism…or at least I think that’s the idea. I loathe the culture keepers at schools like St. Pats. But telling people what to think and how to talk to their kids isn’t part of a school’s job imo |
Only among liberal freaks like you. |
+1. For most of us, it's how the world goes 'round. |
You do see color. You just make a well-intentioned effort to ignore it. However, that may be unsuccessful and harmful. |
Unsuccessful? Perhaps. Harmful? No |
