BVR is requiring 5 year olds to wear KN95 masks

Because I think it’s ridiculous. All kids are now vaccinated. All parents are boostered. Omicron is contagious, but milder (described like a mild cold). When does it end?!?!?
I lost all my patience at this point.

Why is it only parents whine about masks? Also, it’s cute that you believe everyone is vaccinated. The vaccination rate is about 62%.

It’s ridiculous

Who told them masks were going away when “everyone” was vaccinated? It’ll clearly be some time until that’s a reality anyway as the under 5 kids can’t be vaxxed yet. Tell your kids they got vaxxed not to get rid of masks but to protect themselves more.

I know you're a troll, but just in case: Covid-19 hospitalizations in DC have exceeded the highest peak of the pandemic. DC EMS services have lots of staff out and have a hard time responding in a timely manner to all calls. If you're in a car accident or need the ER for any reason, not just Covid, you will not receive the quality of care that you expect. Maryland hospitals have requested lawsuit protection from the Governor because they will shortly operate under what they called " catastrophic" conditions.

A "milder" Omicron that is 10 times more transmissible than Delta actually means severe impact on communities, because our society doesn't have a lot of margin to staff all its essential services.

I want to keep kids safely in school though, and the reality is that right now this is what is required so we are all going to suck it up (I’m a teacher) and deal and hope we can move forward soon.

You need to both realize that this is how we live with Covid: more protections when cases spike to enormous levels, less protections when they recede. It's logical and to be expected.

If I had to choose between 30 days with masks (it really adds up to 18 school days) or quarantining if my kid catches COVID, even if it presents as a mild cold, I’d go with masks every time. If I had to choose between masking or witnessing my kid’s friend being hospitalized because he was the in the tiny percent that become serious, same thing. If I had to choose between masking or going virtual at some point because there are not enough teachers to cover a class because they are at home watching their own quarantined kids or recovering from their own “minor cold like illness” …. Fill in the blank

Why should my kid pay for the kids of idiot parents? Also, I thought student vaccination rate at BVR was at least 80% and since vaccination will be mandatory, we will get to 100% very soon

Stop your whining and put your kid in a mask. Jesus, Joseph and Mary, are we really arguing about this? PUT YOUR KID IN A MASK. It's literally THE LEAST you can do. The absolute ignorance and selfishness of some people is absolutely stunning, but yet shouldn't be. What a disapointment you are to your children and community.

Doesn't BVR have PreK?

Kids really don't mind, it's adults who complain. the FN94 at Amazon for kids are very comfortable and fit small faces.

BVR has infants through third grade. There are many children there who will not be eligible any time soon.

Class don’t mix (ever)… everyone in my kids’ classes is 5+

I assume your guidelines will actually allow a KF94, but you'll have to find the smallest size - look on Amazon for "KF94 4-8 years old", or something.

Our family has always found N95, KN95 and KF94 to be much more comfortable than fabric masks. My children have worn then for 12+ hours door-to-door for an international trip this summer. They are light and stay off the nose and mouth, which is great.

An 11 year old can wear some n95. Even with the rule, there have been a few positives.

The trolls are getting hysterical post-Christmas, because with cases surging ever higher, and hospitalizations following suit, they're not getting the traction they want right now. Hence this post, and others in the same vein sprinkled throughout DCUM.
