BVR is requiring 5 year olds to wear KN95 masks

I agree with OP. These masks are much more uncomfortable and more difficult to breathe in than cloth masks. I’m tired of adults asking kids to do things most of them won’t do themselves while they wfh. It will be tough on teachers but teachers get breaks throughout the day during which I’m quite sure they’ll remove their masks. We’re asking little kids to wear these masks literally all day without breaks. At some point we need to figure out a better solution. I know very few adults making the same sacrifices we’re asking kids to make and it’s beginning to feel abusive.

Teacher here - we don’t get breaks ask you think we do, especially during COVID. We have a 30 minute buddy break so we can eat lunch, which usually ends up being 20 minutes if we are lucky with the transitions built in. We can’t remove our masks unless eating or drinking - just like the kids. Stop trying to make a story that isn’t.

It’s ridiculous

+1000. There are parent petitions to City Council to do away with the mask madness for young children at school once and for all

They are not more difficult. Have you even let your kids get used to them? My kids actually prefer them.

Not making a story. Acknowledging that it’s hard for teachers too but at least teachers have breaks. Not sure what grade or subject you teach, but most lower school teachers have breaks (time alone) when their students are in specials. They may be doing prep during that time but they can still take the opportunity to remove their masks if alone. As I said before, I know very few adults actually doing the things we’re asking of little children. If you happen to be one of those few adults than good for you—I guess.

BVR teachers do not get to remove their masks during the day at all while kids are there - even while they are at specials. Again…stop trying to make a story.

My spouse works in an office there and has to keep her mask on all day too while school is in session unless eating or drinking. Same rules for all.

If you keep your mask on while you're completely alone then you're a special kind of dedicated--again good for you....

You are imagining what you believe teachers can do when kids are not in the room. Masks are on all day, for everyone in the school, when they are not eating or drinking. Period.

HOS felt it was inequitable for some to be able to remove masks because they weren’t around kids so adults in classrooms and offices were asked to wear them 100% no exceptions. Most appreciated it. It seems it brought colleagues together during a time they could have been pretty divided.

This. My 5 year old wears it with no complaining from 9-3 every day. He wears the Bona fide KN95 ones.

And if families refuse to comply, they should homeschool this winter and spend that time looking at other schools or enroll in their local public school. The contracts for the 2021-22 school year will be out soon, and I imagine that Beauvoir could easily find another family who would be happy to take the spot of anyone who refuses to comply. Call the bluff of those who complain. They won't be going anywhere.

Yeah, you guys are single handedly ending the pandemic by making 5 year olds wear N95s all day at their $40K per year kindergarten. Congratulations. You win the most virtuous signaling.

Everyone is virtue signaling. You’re signaling that your virtue is abject selfishness.

OP I’m with you. This is craziness. Just say no. If we aren’t forcing adults to why should we force kids.

Hmm. The adults in the building have the same requirement. Children have not been singled out.

Great advice! Op, your kid will be shown the door.

Are all other schools do the same?
Do you think 2 3-layers masks are easier for little kids than KN95 masks?

Science says the cloth masks are not as effective for Omicron. The kids really don't care, they adapt. Would you rather have a sick kid?
