Yes, let's all believe everything we hear on social media. F'ing moron. |

| If she were not a news celebrity's mother, would we hear about it all day, and I mean all day? I do not remember this much coverage for children who go missing- beyond a few days, and there are children who go missing that we never hear about. It certainly an odd case, and there are so many questions, but it remains at the top of the news cycle. |
I do think it is because she is a well known news anchor's mother. I think it is a tricky situation for the major news stations to start dropping off in terms of coverage, because of course the family wants coverage to continue until she is found, and the family in this case is a major news anchor. I am sure NBC especially feels obligated to continue a high level of coverage. I do wonder how, and when, the coverage will start dwindling. Obviously I hope she is found so this can be a non issue. |
It’s hard to say. True crime is definitely having a moment. There are far less famous people that get people get caught up in and are covered heavily- maybe not in the mainstream news, but tons of digital creators and podcasters cover the story obsessively. This is a different case though because Savannah is supposed to be on our TV every day and her colleagues can’t just move on without acknowledging what is happening so I think that definitely adds to it. This is going to be a story at least for the today show and NBC for a long time. |
| At what point do they get back to their normal lives? At this point it seems highly unlikely that she will ever be found. |
I think it's now at that point the news stations *except for maybe NBC) will need to slowly decrease coverage. Hopefully she can manage some of this from home so she will be able to see her children in person without them missing school. It's great dad is there, but I would want to be with my kids. |
| The fact that the kidnappers haven’t been back in touch to say we really mean it this time. Send the money. Or can’t provide proof of life, sadly means she is dead. Why would the kidnappers keep her alive for days and days and not communicate one way or another. Heart breaking. |
I don’t believe she was kidnapped. I think someone was hired to kill her and make it look like a kidnapping. |
|
Sorry, messed up quoting. What would be the motive for a hired killing of her mother? |
| I think not knowing is worse than finding out she’s dead. The lack of closure is unsettling |
People keep saying this. Yes, celebrities get attention that the rest of us don’t get. That’s what makes them celebrities. They also get more attention than us when they get married or divorced, have kids, or are simply seen in public. Obviously, every missing person case will not get this kind of attention. But a LE friend once told me that any high profile case like this actually helps all the others and even helps prevent more. As we learn about the case, we all learn a little more about the investigation process and things to be aware of in our everyday lives. We all also learn a bit more about prevention. I’m sure a lot of people took measures to increase their home security because of this. Maybe they bought a nest doorbell or already had one and decided to spring for the subscription. I’m sure a lot of people are keeping a closer eye on their elderly relatives and checking in on them more often. So, instead of complaining about the attention this is getting, think about the awareness and education that comes along with that. |
We don’t know that. |
I think it's also because the case plays to the worst fears of the people who still watch network news and know Savannah--older women. |
