That is actually a good weekend for Cavalier Lacrosse. As a former Cav parent, it is good to see the teams traveling to take on tough competition. The club is run by good guys who are in it for the right reasons. They took on a higher level of competition than what teams will find playing in a Leesburg or Williamsburg tournament as they are challenging themselves to get better. The club lax scene in Northern VA is settling down. Kids play Cav's when they are younger. It sounds like the younger teams did very well this weekend. When kids get older, some do look to a Madlax, Blackwolf, VLC or DC Express. This only helps make these upper clubs better. DC Dogs, DC Express, and VLC all played competitive games this weekend in the rain at George Mason it was good fall lacrosse. Many former Cav players showed they are some of the best in the area.

How about the 26s? They are the ones who lost a lot of kids when the coach left I believe. Have they bounced back?

The former Cavs 26 coach left to form TRW - they won the Aloha Indian Summer tournament over Eastside. Cavs 26 went 1-3 (10-6 v Hawks, 5-8 v Breakers, 1-8 Eastside). Cavs 27 (4 teams), Cavs 28 (10 teams), Cavs 29 (4 teams) won their respective divisions.

How are CAV high school teams compared to other NOVA clubs?

Not as good, but the younger teams seem more competitive. Loudoun is really overtaking the closer-in areas in terms of lax, and sports in general.

You are correct that the center or talent is moving toward Loudoun. Cav youth teams should get credit for developing talent. As the kids get older they move to other teams. It is hard for any parent to stick with a team or one coach from 5th grade through high school. Cav’s almost get penalized for this. The 2023 team was talented and now it is almost a new team. They had a tough weekend.

I don't think Cav youth teams should get credit for developing talent because that's why kids are moving on to other teams - while it's comfortable for incumbent players to play the same way for years, Cavs teams don't evolve, players don't get better, they play in weak competitions. What's worse, I would bet as many or more kids leave Cavs to give up the travel lax (or lax altogether) than leave for other teams because the Cavs don't develop talent. Let's see if the younger teams turn around that trend.

That is a bit unfair. There are some excellent former CAV players now playing for Madlax VLC and Blackwolf. No team keeps a majority from youth through HS
