Beauvoir Scandal?

Did you read the blog entry Jeff wrote about the situation, or the newspaper stories?

Dear Fellow-Beauvoir Parent:

Great way to win friends and influence people.

Dear DCBM,

I am not a fellow-Beauvoir parent. In fact, my DC was rejected twice. I have no ill feelings toward the school nor any warm and fuzzy feelings.

I found the promotion of hysteria by no doubt a few or at most a handful of posters who at the time had no information very annoying. The well, now I'm not going to apply or the school was so high on my list but now it's not meant, seemed to me at least to be shared with the intention of causing some kind of mass exodus in the applicant pool. And the rest of the pots by non Beauvoir parents were just void of any substance for the most part.

Not trying to give Beauvoir a bad rep. Just trying to point out that this could have happened anywhere and had it did at a non Beauvoir, Sidwell, GDS, Maret type school, it would not have gone to 19 pages.

What did you say?

Over 2 hours with no traffic on this thread?

The fact that no one has responded to this post is disconcerting.

The silence is deafening and heartbreaking.

Why is the silence deafening and heartbreaking? Because you can't get your gossip fix for the day?

The defensiveness and paranoia and arrogance of you Beauvoir people is heartbreaking. The first serious post on this thread in some time and this is what you come up with? The question and answer is of interest to ALL of us, Beauvoir family or not.

14:35, thank you for sharing. We will use that idea in our talk.

Dear Whoever You Are,

There are a MYRIAD of books written on this subject, I'm sure--on how to talk with kids about issues like this. You most definitely do not need to know the specifics of this case to know how to talk to your children on this matter. I am in no way affiliated with Beauvoir, I'm just baffled by why everyone feels they need to know everything about this issue at Beauvoir. It has happened (whatever 'it' may turn out to be) so use that as a starting point to find your own information about how to talk with your kids about it. Here's one for you: http://www.amazon.com/Protect-Your-Child-Sexual-Predators/dp/097969390X/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214569141&sr=8-7

Simply pasting the link would have been sufficient. Why all the grandstanding? Geez. But thanks for the link.

Just returned from the local public library. It would appear that a number of books on the topic were checked out within the last day or two! Amazon, here I come.

i think the reason maybe people are so anti-beauvoir isn't that their child necessarily was rejected - it was the way in which their child was rejected ie: not returning parents' phone calls, seeming almost remiss about some applicants, etc... however that being said, whatever folks - listen this could have happened at any school i suppose or maybe not? if a thorough thorough background check is done there may have been red flags. i will tell you this, that my gut tells me for some reason that this teacher is innocent and that it is more likely that this is a prank that some kids took the camera and took funny pics or something. would he really be that stupid to use the school camera and leave it out? it doesn't make sense.

What do you mean by the "seeming almost remiss about some applicants"?

I disagree about your theory on why there are so many ant-Beauvoir people out there. I'll be the first to admit that there are reasons why this school elicits such a strong response from so many. But it's not the Admissions Office. They are excellent. It's just never easy to say no to so many wonderful families. And face it. Too many of us are pushy and rude who are not used to getting our way. In our case, we were waitlisted the first year. Made one call to Margaret. It was returned one week later. She really didn't have much to say, but I appreciated the call back. We were waitlisted the second year. I never made any follow up calls. Just received, out of the blue, a call in April to let us know we made it off the wait list.

By the way, I have slightly more information that was has been posted on this thread. There was nothing "funny" about the pictures.

What was the ethnicity of the teacher in question. Beauvoir tries to be politically correct at the cost of children. This is the sort of political correctness that has cost us so much and wil continue to collect a price

Well, that's the stupidest and most ridiculous comment yet - out of nearly 300 posts, you win for dumbest poster.

I'm curious as to what ethnicity you feel would be predisposed to taking nude pictures of children?

This is either like falsely screaming "fire" in a crowded theater, or throwing a Molotov cocktail into a crowded theater.

Either way, it's senseless.

Ignore the poster. Trying to play with fire to get his/her kicks or perhaps one of those who take some sort of perverse pleasure in trying to tarnish the reputation of the school. Whatever the motivation, on it's face unfounded and agenda-driven drivel.

It's not crying fire or being the dunbest post or trying to ruin the reputation of the school. By trying to be poilitically correct, you end up hiring teacher's or employees by overlooking certain things that would have set off alarms in other candidates who do not fit the profile that you are looking to fit. I have had family go through this school system and have only good things to say about it. This is a serious issue. Kids lives are at stake. We need to be told what sort of vetting process the school goes through and what it did when it hired this teacher.

Are you suggesting that the school would lower standards just so they can employ someone of a different ethnicity? Do you really believe that there are no teachers of different ethnicities that could possibly meet the standards required by he school so that the only way to employ them would be to lower the standards? If so, shame on you!

I can scarcely believe what I am reading.

I understand from a Beauvoir parent that the pictures were of a boy's private parts.
