Over 2 hours with no traffic on this thread? The fact that no one has responded to this post is disconcerting. The silence is deafening and heartbreaking. |
Why is the silence deafening and heartbreaking? Because you can't get your gossip fix for the day? |
| I would imagine that most posters are in the same boat as me (and I am a pp). Both my kids are under 9 by several years and I have not told them. Kids start at Beauvoir as young as 4 don't forget. |

Our DC will start at Beauvoir this Fall. We have not told DC about the situation and do not plan to; this may cause DC to feel uncomfortable in the Beauvoir Community. What we have done is spoke in terms of what is proper and improper contact and reviewed safety rules.

The defensiveness and paranoia and arrogance of you Beauvoir people is heartbreaking. The first serious post on this thread in some time and this is what you come up with? The question and answer is of interest to ALL of us, Beauvoir family or not. 14:35, thank you for sharing. We will use that idea in our talk. |
Dear Whoever You Are, There are a MYRIAD of books written on this subject, I'm sure--on how to talk with kids about issues like this. You most definitely do not need to know the specifics of this case to know how to talk to your children on this matter. I am in no way affiliated with Beauvoir, I'm just baffled by why everyone feels they need to know everything about this issue at Beauvoir. It has happened (whatever 'it' may turn out to be) so use that as a starting point to find your own information about how to talk with your kids about it. Here's one for you: http://www.amazon.com/Protect-Your-Child-Sexual-Predators/dp/097969390X/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214569141&sr=8-7 |
Simply pasting the link would have been sufficient. Why all the grandstanding? Geez. But thanks for the link. |
I posted this (as well as 19:56 from 6/17). I (and I imagine all summer camp parents) just received an email from the Beauvoir Summer Programs Director which addressed my concerns. While the communication came a bit later than I would have preferred, I do very much appreciate the effort. |
What did it say? |
| It contained the three letters that were sent to parents of Beauvoir students, and provided some of the steps that they take to ensure the safety of the children. No details about the "situation" were provided, though it did say that the investigation is still underway. |
| Thank you for sharing. |

Some of you who seem to have gotten great pleasure in spinning this thread to 19 pages but you are still no less likely to get rejected from the school in the fall or get a call that you are off the waitlist.
This could have happened anywhere. Let it go and let the families and children who were directly affected deal. |

Apologies for not wading through all 19 pages of this thread before posting.... but I have a kind of basic question. Is it safe to assume that the pictures on this teacher's camera were "inappropriate" for reasons other than just being a few otherwise innocent pictures of a naked little kid? I mean, I am assuming that these were not pictures of his own toddler taking a bubble bath, along with two dozen other pictures of the same kid doing cute kid things while fully dressed, right? (Sorry, this is probably a stupid question-- but you occasionally read about these cases where some poor grandparent ends up in trouble for innocently emailing pictures of naked-grandbaby-in-the-tub to a bunch of acquaintances....)
FWIW, I do not think we are likely to apply to Beauvoir in any case, but even if the teacher is a bona fide child molestot, this incident does not affect my view of Beauvoir one way or the other. Even good schools that work very hard to screen people cannot screen out people with no criminal records. These things happen-- blessedly rarely. But unless Beauvoir was somehow negligent (as opposed to just clumsy about how to discuss this with parents), it hardly seems fair to hold this against them. |
| what were the pictures of? if this was a popular teacher, what if he is indeed innocent? was the child nude, maybe just running around from being in a pool or something or was it actually sexual. i mean this teacher could be innocent of this and he is being crucified here. what if this were our sons when they got older and they some how got caught in a situation that looked worse than it was. i don't even know the specifics so i could be terribly wrong. i am just saying it doesn't sound like anyone seems to know the actual specifics. it would be awful if this was some kind of misunderstanding. if it was a school camera, how do we know he actually took the pictures? what if other kids or another teacher took the pictures? |

Funny that this post first makes its appearance on page 19.
